Sorry for you loss, Chris. Have a good one with your other mates.

Very little progress. Getting old. Caught up with some old school mates Friday and I still feel rough and it's Sunday afternoon  :banghead:

I think my Telford contribution is going to be my Polish Defiant and another kit from the built collection. Was hoping to have a second new one done but with 3 weeks to go and other things to do as well it's looking unlikely and I'm not rushing things as It just spoils the enjoyment.

Anyway here's the innards of my latest project. Tamiya and yet another little beaut in terms of fit

Tamiya P-47s   ...now that definitely could go the Japanese route (Razorback). I keep coming back to look at your Defiant. A very pleasant build, and an aircraft with some interesting potential

Must admit I enjoyed the build and keep coming up with ideas for it - the Naval dive bomber will get built. We did seem to get a whole spat of them on site at about the same time  ;D

Having some trouble getting down to building, minds on other things at the moment  :-\

Attempted some painting over the last couple of days but as I'm using orange and interior zin chromate it's taking rather a few coats  :banghead: I hate trying to cover grey plastic with yellow and red shades of paint.

Might be dumbest question in history but do you prime first?  I find that my rattle can Rustoleum 2x primer makes those problems go away.. in fact, I was brushing yellow paint just last evening and it took one coat and looked marvelous.  Granted, these are smaller areas, but when I try that straight on to plastic there are always thin spots (even on the small stuff).

I've gotten so spoiled on it I paint even the tiny pieces with it now. In certain instances I paint right on to the plastic but if it's easy to slap primer on, I do!

:o :o :o.

One thing I love about modelling, ironing, washing up etc is disappearing into the marvellous realms of thought but lately also had a cranial log-jam distracting me from doing so. Even reading has become difficult.

I've copped the flu (the Delhi-belly kind :banghead:) so I've decided to lay off for a few days.

Not dumb at all.

I always prime resin but I usually just give plastic a good wash with soapy water and that's fine. However I do sometimes prime plastic if I think it's of the particularly oily type. Tamiya is normally fine but I think I should have primed this just for the orange. It's Lifecolor which is normally not a problem but first time I've used this particular colour.

I still have the rudder to paint so will prime the fuselage first and see what effect that has.

Seems to me like certain colors /brands of paint behave differently.

I have some black acrylic that I could fling at a model from across the room with a plastic spoon and it would lay down nice and flat with nothing shining through and look brilliant... then.. I go to use my yellow and I'd have to put down 10 coats. It just seems like with primer first it makes it hold in place better or something.  Still not perfect in some instances..  works better in smaller areas, larger areas are more iffy (gonna need extra coats! ), but, it sure seems to help.

I looked at the stuff I did the other night again after it had fully dried and it still looks good. They were smaller areas, as i said, but I was still having problems even with tiny stuff like prop spinners. In my mind the bare plastic is "slick" and the primer is "rough" so it held the paint better.  Real scientific, right?!  lol

Yellow & red are problematic colours, anyway, Brad. I always use (Tamiya) grey primer, then (Tamiya) white primer as an undercoat before either colour. Orange can be a bit of an issue, too.

I also airbrush all 3 colours because it's the only way I've found to get even looking coatings.

I'll remember that next time...  my cheap, good white spray paint has been working well for me lately and would fair better than my primer which is quite dark to my eye. Worth a shot anyway!  Sometimes I hit a homer and sometimes the bat snaps in half...

... without having hit anything, except that it's held on by a thin strip of wood &, at the end of the swing, arcs around to smack me in the back of the head. :o

Well, that's what happens to me, anyway. :-\

Sorry for the slight blog-jack, Chris! I'll shut up now. :-X
