Well done England.  It seems we can't score without cheating.

On behalf of the team, thank you sir

Meanwhile got the underside of the SR53 painted and worked out a small backstory to cover her colour scheme. Also found some transfers for her.

More progress than I expected with the SR 53. Upper's have now been painted and the rather minimalist transfers are on. So looking at finishing her, touching wood, before the RAF 100 GB kicks off next Sunday.

I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the SR 53  :-\ In all honesty I haven't paid her the attention she deserved. She was intended as my Cold War GB build but other things got in the way, hospital etc, and I just let my attention slip a bit (a lot actually)  :banghead: This has affected areas of the build which could and should have been better. The paintwork isn't what I would want and on the scheme I've chosen it shows. I know why and can't blame anyone but myself. I have an old habit which I really do need to break and I've now determined to do so, but we shall see if I can during the RAF 100 build. Finally the varnish hasn't worked as I would want it. Now part of this is down to the heat. I was brush painting it having become paranoid over Humbrol spray cans * and it started to dry as I was brushing it. The rest is probably down to my technique. I really wish I had a local club where I could just ask others and get them to show me, but I haven't so I need to get over this "thing" with spray cans.

Anyway I think I'll get another of these and pay attention while building it. Probably do it in one of the early demonstration schemes they wore when I saw them back in the mid 60's at the Biggin Hill Airshows  ;)

* I've had a few disasters with Humbrol cans. One has been down to me, far to heavy a coat, which I can deal with. Just learn to be more patient and use more and lighter coats. The other and more serious one is the crazing I've experienced at times. Now I think this can be dealt with by ensuring the model's paintwork is well coated in Klear before I varninsh, but as said I'm a little paranoid.

Persevere! I'm just glad to see you working on something with a pointy nose.  ;D ;D ;D ;)

Demo scheme sounds good..... sounds like it should be a bright, colorful affair. At least that's how I figure most demo schemes to be . . ..

As a non modelling aside, the England game yesterday  ;D  gave me the itches this morning  :banghead: Why ? Well I was so nervous before the game (I've been watching England in many different sports for over 50 years now  :-X) that I cleaned the coal hole out to distract me. Anyway all the dust has obviously given me the itch. Was it worth it ? Of course it was  ;D

The only problem with it having a "pointy nose" is ; what is the finishing touch ? With most of my builds adding the prop' is the finishing touch but when they don't have one ?

And yes the scheme I have in mind for the next one is natural metal (or maybe painted aluminium) with a lot of red and squadron markings.

The landing gear does it for me. That says 'I've done building and painting, now fit the wheels and that's it'.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thank god I read all the way to the end!  I thought 'clearing out the coal hole' may have been s euphemism.   :o

Usually with mine it's adding the radio mast and all the little sticky out bits.
Unless i'm posing it with canopy open and then it's adding that.
The bits most prone to being knocked off in other words.

Nope and it still has it's original loading chute as well. Mind you it wouldn't have seen coal because of  the 1956 Clean Air Act, so it should be the Coalite Hole

Anyway the 53 is now standing on her legs, all 3 I'm glad to say. And the final bits will probably be the two radio aerials I've scratched up.

53 is finished  ;D, but not before one final cock up  :banghead:

I used Araldite to attach the wingtip missiles, which I quite often use for bits that are prone to being knocked off or especially canopies that don't want to sit properly. Anyway to cut a long story short I managed to get some on to the wing surface, I put to much on the joins, and didn't notice as I was, if I'm honest hurrying a bit. So there is a "smear" there, which is very noticeable. Now I could fix it by stripping a lot of stuff back, but the knock on damage to other small bits and bobs and probably the undercarriage means I don't want to do that. So sorry to the purists but she'll have to stay like that.

Never the less despite the many self inflicted problems I have enjoyed the kit and photos will follow.

I've already ordered another to build which will get built as one of the display aircraft I remember, I'm already looking for all those slides I took at Biggin , and whilst in the coffee shop this morning I had an idea for a third. Maybe a Mk 4 (this one is a Mk 3) with under wing Redtops and use the wingtip rails to mount the sensor pods, included in  the kit, and say that's the radar fit ?
