I've finally finished the strut work on the IK-2 and I think I need a lie down in a darkened room ?  :-\

I've also started to prep a few bits from a Tamiya 1/72 Thunderbolt and all I can say is that the detail work on the cockpit floor and side walls is exquisite  I think this is going to be U.S.A.F. in Korea circa 1950 so will strictly be an F.47.  I remember reading somewhere that the U.S.A.F. may well have been better off with Thunderbolts in the ground attack roll than Mustangs because of them having radial engines which were slightly less prone to damage from ground fire ?

Nice aren't they.  Building the one I had has quite put me off the two Hasegawa Jugs in the stash.

The Hasegawa ones are mid 80s kits at the latest - I did their D in 1988.

Based on Scalemates the Hasegawa moulds date from '74.  My releases are both from '80.

Slow progress, minds been elsewhere this week, hopefully it will return home this weekend

Meanwhile was looking at one of my Airfix Typhoons (the proper WWII one) and musing either New Zealand AF in the SW Pacific or Australian in New Guinea. That got me wondering if it would be possible for a Tiffie to carry both bombs and rockets ? Perhaps a pair of 250lb bombs plus two rockets per wing outside of the bomb racks ? Might make an interesting looking combination and might end up in RAF service that way.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Wooksta!

You can carry both, but as I keep saying ad bleedin nauseum they were never used together operational by the same aircraft because the methods of delivery of each weapon is different.  You almost never see the together set up in photographs, it's either or.  You'd have one flight with rockets, another with bombs.

Now I know that's historically correct Lee and I know the reasons why, but I swear I've seen photos of USAAF Thunderbolts carrying a combination of bombs and rockets, even some newsreel footage ? But thinking about it they were probably the bazooka tube style rockets, not that that should make much difference with the principal of the thing ?

That's the Americans, and they have a different way of doing things.

I think drop tanks and rockets were carried but not bombs and rockets, Chris.

Just so people don't think posts are mysteriously disappearing I've deleted a couple of them, mainly because whilst I might personally agree with the comments made I don't feel my Blog, or indeed, the site, is the place for them.

NARSES2

Been a bit of a slow week mainly because I've got myself over tired and that's exacerbated my on-going health issues and hand/eye co-ordination problems, but this morning took the biscuit  :banghead: Not only was I being exceptionally clumsy, even for me, but when I started to give a pot of Xtracrylic RLM 66 a good shaking so I could paint the tyres on a couple of my current kits, the top flew off  :o. All I can say is "thank whichever deity you choose it's acrylic. Took an age to clean up and the reminder will be on my work top for a few years, but it could have been worse. 30 secs earlier I was walking around the house whilst shaking it, at least it waited until I was at the bench. I called it a day at that point.

Is it just me, but I find both Humbrol and Xtracrylic screw tops can be a right p.i.a. when it comes to getting clogged up and thus refusing to sit properly ?

I found the same with Tamiya, Pactra, and Testors/ModelMasters jars as well.  But I also find a couple of wipes with mineral spirits on a paper towel tends to resolve it, at least on the bottle threads.

It's the threads inside the caps/tops I find the most annoying and difficult to keep clean.

Slow progress on all current projects, with emphasis on the word slow, but at least I've moved on to the paint stage with 3 of them.
