Some progress

The Avia has been glossed and will now get her transfers. The wing ribs are very pronounced so for the first time ever I will be giving Micro set and Microsol a try. Must remember to be patient.

The A.W. has had her minimal transfers applied. Bit of a problem actually as being an early 60's scenario I have very, very few suitable markings plus being almost a flying wing there is hardly anywhere to put them  I had some Canberra roundels but they are way to big, so I used some from a Revell (Matchbox) Meteor for the wings with the fin flashes for the rudders. Under wing and rudder serials are from the Canberra as are the warning triangles and ejection seat markings and that's about it. I looked at putting roundels on what nose she has but in all honesty they looked plain silly so didn't get put on. There are no squadron markings because a) I have none suitable and b) where would I put them other than on the rudder ? The Canbera serials are o.k. because in my world the Auckland's were built as a backup in case the Canberra hit problems, so there were 3 squadrons of them and this one will be 16 Sqdn. Sticky out bits. nav lights, satin varnish and I'm calling it a day. She will probably go straight into the "for renovation collection" after photos but she's served her purpose in giving me something to do over the last week or so

Glad to know all's going well in the health department, the modeling mojo always benefits from that!

Well the Set/Sol worked ok, indeed I'm impressed with how it dealt with the corrugations. Mind you the Eduard transfers are very thin and come of the backing paper in nano seconds.

Using the Set/Sol took me back 40 years or so. I've a poor sense of smell but even I could smell the old fashioned fish and chip shop  ;D You don't get that smell nowadays, not around here anyway. Mind you there are very few fish and chip shops about  :-\

Really? We've got three here and we're only tiny compared to The Big City.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Leominster has 4, and a travelling fish and chip van calls in the car park beside our flat out in the country twice a week!  I think that you're being deprived , Chris!!

Yup. We have one traditional one about 2 miles away and the queue outside on a Friday is  Otherwise it's a collection of Chicken, Pizza, Kebab, Chinese and Indian (actually Bangladeshi in the main) takeaways. Loads and loads of them but even the Chinese run chippy has given up and his stuff was fantastic. We have loads of designer, bijou eateries on the Palace Triangle now as it moves upmarket but no chippy

Sounds like an opening for Harry Ramsden's.

The second nearest one to us has internet ordering.  If you time it right you walk in just as they are wrapping it so no waiting.
Plus it has the best chip shop name - Prawn Star.

Cheers Capt.

The Avia progresses. The Eduard transfers are very, very thin and come off the backing sheet as soon as you show them the water. I had one of the individual aircraft letters fold up on me and there was no way it would unravel  :banghead: Had some Hasegawa letter "A's" in the right font and colour but just a shade to big, so I've used 2 of these to keep it even. Needless to say you could have brewed a cuppa before the thing released from the backing sheet. Difference between this and Eduard was

The A.W. is stuck in the middle of a varnish saga. I need her to be satin but the only satin I have is the new Humbrol stuff. Now given the fun I had with their matt I shook this bottle whilst I counted to 400 . Result ? Better than the matt but there are still a few white streaks  :banghead: So she's been glossed again. I think I'm going to mix some of my Windsor and Newton matt with Klear/Future and see how that goes or just leave it gloss !

I will try the Humbrol stuff thinned with their own thinners on a "gash" kit and if that fails then it will be poured down the drain and lesson learned.

Right I'm calling the AW done. Photo's next week when hopefully I'll have the Avia done as well, although she may not be rigged.
