An Attacker project I'm going to do one day, is what RAE told Supermarine what it really needed, a nose wheel ---

Logical but I've been thinking about an Attacker with a mid mounted engine, nose wheel undercarriage and pusher contra-props ?

Conversely, I've always wanted to do it with a noseprop.  Same idea, just t'other way round.  IIRC, I even started one but never did finish getting the bits together.

Now not having a mechanical bone in my body I have no idea if this would be a practical idea or not, but I was pondering how wide/deep the Attacker fuselage is and thought "would a Centaurus fit ? use the existing jet intakes as cooling intakes ?

Go on all you mechanically minded people, tell me the 100 reasons why it wouldn't work  ;D ;D

If it'll fit then I guess the question is will it get enough cooling air through the intakes and where will the hot air leave from?
Is there enough room for the drive shaft to pass under the pilot?

You couldn't make it up.  ;D

I scaled a drawing of the Attacker to 1/72 and measured the fuselage diameter at its widest point, and compared it with the 1/72 scale diameter of a Centaurus....

It's EXACTLY the same!  ;D ;D ;) ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

All the hot air?  Gather it all together with the exhaust gasses and dump it out the back jet pipe.  That was my plan anyway.

That's my plan with my Crecy fighter, only the hot radiator air is used instead. The Crecy in my plan was to be an 'X' engine with 24 cylinders and theoretically could put out about 8000hp.

(erm! I had photos of it on the forum but they've all gone

I was thinking about my plans to try and get this in action against the Japanese in late 46, early 47. Or at least on the way before the Japanese surrender. So what if the Lordships at the Admiralty got a little jealous of the RAF having both Meteors and Vampires in service ? Not wanting to be outdone they get Supermarine to quickly produce an interim version of the Attacker but with an up-rated Derwent rather then wait for the Nene ?

Anyway I got the Attacker's top sides painted yesterday before disappearing to hospital for my retina scan. Drops so no more modelling yesterday.

NARSES2

Little bit of work yesterday after a very long lie in and de-masked the Attacker  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Didn't use Tamiya tape but used the free roll of Shesto/Model Craft they gave away with SAMI (at least it was in the subscriber issue). Looked the same, so ? Pulled some of the sky away right down to the primer  And before anybody says anything it had had 2 days to cure.

I'm not to happy with it and will be having a word with David Francis when I see him at Milton Keynes.

The tape meanwhile is relegated to test fitting duties.

Maybe that's why they have to give it away?

I hadn't thought of that !

Thinking about it, it might come in handy for seat belts as well as test fitting

Attacker's repaired and paintwork has started on the upper surface of the 262 and the Tomahawk. Only problem is I've used that Shesto tape on the Tomahawk, so expecting repairs  :-\

Got the top sides of the Tomahawk and 262 done. Will see what masking tape "damage" is tomorrow  :-\

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this "problem", but I've noticed that with the recent Airfix kits they take an awful lot of cleaning to try and get the surface oil free and ready for painting. Both the 262 and Tomahawk have been right pains, indeed I obviously didn't succeed given the way the first coat reacted  :-\ Probably should have primed them, but I haven't had to do that with other recent Airfix kits. I know the newer tools are made in India so I assume it's the plastic they are using ?
