Skyray is ready for some photographs and Pzl has had her individual exhausts fitted. The instructions take a bit of studying, but once you work out the order in which the "front end" goes together it's all fairly straightforward.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I know what you mean  ;D

Made a little progress yesterday on the Phantom and the PZL, hopefully get some paint on the Phantom over the weekend, make some progress on the PZL and possibly make a start on the SH He 162.

Meanwhile me and my normal Thursday night pub mates had our first virtual get together last night via Zoom. Set up and worked quite well and  is a way of keeping us in touch which we may need to do for a fair old while the way things are going.

Progress

The Phantom has had her undersides painted and I've dug some transfers out for her. Fairly simple and straightforward colour scheme, although I'm wondering whether as a Test and Operational Development Squadron they would have had some coloured bands adorning their aircraft's wings ?

The PZL is now basically assembled and I've started getting some paint on her, plus I've dug the transfers out for her as well. It's an interesting build this. The internals are perhaps a little too fiddly and it's a bit of a struggle to get them fitted and the fuselage closed up around them. Then when you do, you can hardly see a thing through the tiny cockpit opening  The main components though are completely different. Excellent and extremely positive fit all round. Indeed get something test fitted and it can be a bit of a job getting it apart again. Bodes well for their Hurricanes that I have.

The Special Hobby He 162 has been started, and what can I say ? This is SH at the top of their game and there is no way you can call this a "limited run" kit, indeed it puts a lot of mainstream manufacturers to shame. The detail on the parts is superb and the fit so far is excellent. It really is a case of clicking them in place and then using capillary action to run some cement around the seams. The only moan I have about it is the choice of colour they have used for the plastic. It is almost spot on for RLM 66 (or at least the couple of bottles I have of it) and thus makes painting the interior a bit of a nuisance. Nothing untoward, just slightly annoying. I just wish manufacturers would use a neutral shade of grey for their plastic.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

So DON'T paint the cockpit interior.  ;D ;)

Yea  ;D If I got another I'd probably just varnish it  ;)

Progress on all three current projects , may need to dig out a fourth ?

Thinking of either a real world FAA Corsair using the Tamiya kit or a Polish Hurricane using the Arma kit and the unused transfers from the PZL 7 ?

Wouldn't  the Polish Hurricane be better with the Airfix ragwing kit?

Yes it would and I thought I had one in the stash, but I've given in to what my brain was saying and ordered one via E-Bay. The Big H are sold out.

If you can't get one from them, I know I've one or two here that I can send down.

Thanks Lee, but I ordered one today from a Surrey based shop/trader I'd forgotten about.

I've also discovered from Mason's "The Hawker Hurricane" that the Poles actually ordered 1 for testing and then another 9 for service. The single example was delivered just before the outbreak of war and was latter discovered crated on Stetin Docks. The fate of the remaining 9 is slightly confused. It is thought that they were the 9 that were discovered on the docks in Gibraltar and were allegedly awaiting tropical filters. 9 filters were delivered to Gibraltar by air, but if they were for these Hurricanes no one is sure. They did allegedly end up in Egypt although one source has them being the 9 Hurricanes that were later discovered in Aden ? Basically no one knows.

Took the masking off the Phantom and then re-masked a couple of areas which will need touching up. Not to bad overall

I'm finally starting to get the hang of this Tamiya tape for curves. I cut it so that it's approximately 1/1.5mm wide strips and then back that up with normal tape once it's on. masking is still nowhere my favourite job, indeed it's probably my least, but starting to get to grips with it. Needs to be a good day where the old eyes and hands are co-operating though.
