Far too few Beauforts produced in the first batch. I'm still waiting for mine. :-\

Yes I was lucky in getting mine. I wonder if any got stuck in that ship impounded by the Egyptian authorities for bunging up the Suez Canal ?

Bit more work on the Beaufort. It's been very well designed with some innovative features and the fit so far has been immaculate. Only one slight issue and that was what appeared to be some slight damage on one wing trailing edge where it had been removed from the mould ? Very slight and took a minute or so to sort with some fine sanding pads and a little PPP.

You're not making it any easier, you know!

Smart Emil and Flitzer (sounds like a Berlin estate agent!), Chris.
The AZ Emils appear to have won plaudits all round.
Have whiffed 2 Revell Flitzers to date.  Yes there's a couple of niggles (cockpit fit in particular) but overall they're nice kits.  Nice enough to seriously tempt me to buy more of the Revell Luft '46 kits.  I resisted temptation but occasionally it comes back to taunt me!

Both planes look great, but the Flitzer is my favorite. Great markings. I may want to make mine as a DH Vampire development.

I rebuilt a Swedish Flitzer ('Flyga') as a 'Swiss Venom FB.4' for the 2014 'Alternative Cosford' SIG display (

They do don't they, really nice Dave, I'd forgotten all about it.

All the AZ 109's are nice kits. The instructions could be a little clearer at times, but then maybe the latest Airfix instructions have spoilt me  ;)

As for the Revell Luft 46 kits, it was seeing their Arado 240 boxings in Beatties (there's a name to conjure with) that got me back into Modelling

I remember Beatties.  The Manchester Spring Gardens branch was a regular haunt.
The Modelzone rebrand never quite had the same ring to it, although the Holborn branch was a regular lunchtime haunt from 2002 until it closed.

Yup the Holborn one was "my branch" as well. When I worked at the Pearl it was just over the road and then whilst at British Steel (or whatever they were calling themselves that day) it was a short tube journey. Used to browse occasionally, but it was the Arado that "made me" actually buy something  ;D

I agree re the re-branding, it did seem to lose something when it became MZ.

Beatties felt like a family firm, a comfortable name. ModelZone was much more corporate sounding but it was much clearer as to what they sold. It's a common trend in shopping these days.

Back in the 60's there was a department store in Streatham called Pratts (later became part of the John Lewis chain) so going by your example above I wonder what people would think they were selling nowadays ?  ;)

Very little progress as I've spent the last 4 days catching up with friends, some of whom I've not seen since this blasted Covid business kicked off 18 months or so ago.

Still got a little work done on the Beaufort and what I will say is that never assume just because you've been building models for just over 60 years you know better than the young lad or lass who designs Airfix's instruction sheets  :banghead: Learnt that the hard way this morning when I had to unglue something to get another part to fit properly. Now if I'd followed the sheet (or in Airfix's case manual) in the first  place

Also spent ten minutes looking for a part that I knew I'd removed from the sprue last week but couldn't find anywhere. After I'd accepted it was lost and I'd need to fabricate a replacement I discovered I'd already glued it to the part I was aiming to dry fit it to  :banghead: I went and had a mug of tea.  ;)
