I still think Swedish would have been nicer.. ;)
Nah, just pushing it a bit for fun. It's great work and a really cool plane.

Yea, but then people would have thought it was a Re 2000  ;)

I see no problem with confusing people with that.

Not much progress for various reasons, but hopefully get the real world Tempest finished in the coming week and get started on the two KP Mk II's.

Looking forward to your Tempests, Chris.  Bring them to MK - even real world builds can be billed as 'what if they were what ifs'.

I really do like the idea of slipping real world builds into a What If display............and then  watch all the punters trying to work out what has been whiffed!

We've done that a few times on the SIG stand. We plonked my RW Lighting F2A in the middle of one of OGL's 'Lightning Fests' and watched the JMNs go bananas. Great fun  ;D

Finished the Airfix Tempest V this morning  I'll take a couple of shots of it and post them here tomorrow probably.

Meanwhile I put in a small order to collect from Hannants at the MK show next week. No postage and 10% discount

Bit more time then I thought so here's some photos of my real world Tempest build.

Overall it's a nice build and like all the new tool Airfix kits goes together with no dramas at all. Probably slightly more accurate than the KP kit in the cockpit area especially as I don't think the Tempest had a floor which Airfix replicate, whereas KP give you a floor. However as you can't see a thing in the cockpit bar the seat it doesn't really matter. You get a couple of bits for your spares box, second set of wheels, spinner and backplate, closed undercarriage doors and what I think is a tropical filter ? However if Airfix want to issue a Series II Mk V they will have to retool the wings for the later cannon set up, so if they intend farther versions it won't be any time soon.

I'm going to start on a coupe of KP Mk II's tomorrow and in all honesty the KP kits are nearly as good, but with the added advantage of loads or the spares box. So you pays your money and makes your choice.

Good job Chris.  Is it not even a little bit whiffy?

Very smart, Chris, well done.

While I very much doubt I'll be getting either KP or Airfix Tempests, I hope they all sell well.  The Heller Tempest was really very good for its time, and I've always liked the simpler but very nice Matchbox II/VI kit.

100% with you there Dave, I've built 3-4 of them in my time, and liked them a lot. But I've bought one of the new Airfix ones, just to see how much progress has been made in the last few decades.

Almost certainly. The Airfix kit is a Mk V series 1, whereas I'm fairly certain the 80 Sqd aircraft was a series 2.

Well that's OK.  All is right with the world then.
