Been musing on my next project and was thinking of getting one of my AZ Me 109 E's out to see if it builds as well as their F/G/H/K's. First thought was Hungarian until I found out that they had operated a few E's and as all the other Axis nations had them I'm not sure what to do it as ? Have had a couple of thoughts regarding the Vichy AF. I suppose I could say they were gifted a couple in N Africa as a "good will gesture" ? Might do it Real World ?

The other thought was to get a late model Me 110 or a 410 and arm it with 4 X-4 AA missiles ? The second crew member could guide them ? Then I discovered there isn't a recent late 110 tooling and that Hannants only have the old Italeri 410 in stock. So unless anyone knows better (and yes I haven't looked at Scalemates yet). it may well be the Italeri 410.

While I was checking to see if the Hungarian's had any E model 109's I came across this lovely quote from the British interrogation of Oberst Neumann (Chief Controller of Fighters, Central Italy, Sept 1944 to the capitulation) in October 1945.

Talking about the ANR, who he was generally complementary about, he said : "The Italian pilots inclination to do what promises to be the most fun led the pilots to attach far greater importance to aerobatics than to combat flying and gunnery"  ;D

From "In The Skies of Europe - Air Forces allied to the Luftwaffe 1939-1945" by Hans Werner Neulan.

He also talks about the proposed use of Me 163's and 262's in Italy, but this fell through because of fuel supply issues.

Finemolds do a 1/72 Me 410. Don't know what it's like but it isn't cheap.

How about Finland for the 109E?  Did they have any?  I can only find pictures of G's.
Or the Soviet Union. They could have obtained some before May '41.

I forgot about the Fine Moulds kit, but I can remember the box art now you've mentioned it. Had a look on E-Bay and the prices are stupid, plus most are  not from UK sellers, so that's out  :-\  I'll have a trawl around at Telford, my Pensioners Xmas Bonus may have arrived by then

I just feel the X-4's would have been better suited to a two seater rather than a single seat fighter.

As for a Finnish E, I think you're right. They had such an eclectic mix of aircraft I just assumed they did have some, but their first 109's were G-2's.. So Finnish it is, thanks mate

I have one of the Fine Moulds Me 410's, its not the worlds best models but better than others. There is supposed to be a problem with the size of the engine nacels but no one does an after market set for them.

If you want a Fine Moulds 410, there's a part started one in the loft you can have, plus a box of Matchbox ones.

X4s were intended for the jets, the Hs 297(?) was for use on piston types, but no one does the latter in 72nd AFAIK.

I realise that Lee, just thought it might be better suited to a two seater ? Thanks for the offer I'll let you know  prior to Telford if I decide to go down that route

Just had a "what the........ " moment. Was looking in the stash for an AZ Me 109 E, and whilst I knew I had the "Sitzkreig" boxing, I want that for a real world build and was certain I had another boxing. Well I do and it's one of their "Joy Packs" which is rather like Eduards' Overtrees boxings, except you get 3 kits in the box with no transfers other than stencils, seat belts and instrument panel. The sprues give you parts for an E 3/4/7 so at £17.99 back in 2020 great value   However looking more deeply I find I have two of these boxings which means I have 7 of their 109  E's  . Thinking back on it 2020 was the year of the Great Red Wine Scandal at Telford  :drink: so that is my only possible excuse

Anyway what it means is that I'll probably be off loading a couple of these at Telford for £5 each. So if anyone wants one let me know. However please note it's only available for handover at Telford, not via the post I'm afraid.

Today, 1st of September, would of been my Dad's 100th. So after raising a glass I've also posted a couple of photos on FB and decided to post them here as well.

First is a colourised one of Dad just after he joined up in 1939 and which my Nan proudly kept on her mantlepiece. Second is of him and his crewmates sometime in late 43/early 44 whilst on Indiana Ocean convoy duty, taken in either India or S Africa. Dad is top left. You cannot view this attachment. You cannot view this attachment.
