A small amount of progress as I had the "shakes" a bit too much, however that gave me the opportunity to sit down and read my September copy of SAM.  When it dropped through the letter box last week I'd glanced at it and noticed the South African Cavalier Mustang on the front cover but didn't give it a second thought. It was only when I read the article yesterday that I realised it was a WIF.

We're in danger of becoming mainstream lads   Not only do we get a full build article, but it gets on the cover of one of the main modelling mags  ;D

Nah.  They'll get letters of complaint from JMNs and won't do it again.
After all, if such an abomination is on the cover then it might encourage impressionable young modellers to use their imagination instead of wasting hours of building time doing research and obsessing over identifying colour from B&W photos.  They might even start to enjoy their hobby rather than take it seriously.

I know Gary the editor reasonably well and he's very open minded when it comes to wifferey. Had a fair few builds in the past, but none so prominent

Sept SAM has a few serious issues when it comes to labelling images, especially in the Colour Conundrum article where they are all wrong.   Unusual for SAM, there's normally a couple of issues but not like these which almost take it into the realms of SAMI of old. Looks like something that happened at the printers after the proofs had been ok'd ? Lee and Martin might know how that works ? Be interesting to see what Gary says in the October issue ?

Whilst waiting for primer to dry I dug out the next 4 kits scheduled for the workbench. 3 will be wiffed (one can't be anything else, and 1 will be real world.

Already started some work on the Hornet, not looking to bad, but that will be tested once I try and fit the interior and see how and if that impacts on the overall fit.

Quote from: NARSES2 on September 01, 2022, 06:02:49 AMToday, 1st of September, would of been my Dad's 100th. So after raising a glass I've also posted a couple of photos on FB and decided to post them here as well.

First is a colourised one of Dad just after he joined up in 1939 and which my Nan proudly kept on her mantlepiece. Second is of him and his crewmates sometime in late 43/early 44 whilst on Indiana Ocean convoy duty, taken in either India or S Africa. No, as far as I'm aware none of their kits do, although some of their Heller/SMER re-pops might if the origional kits did ?

Thanks Chris.  I asked because the box art shows a pic of what looks like three model aircraft moulded in grey plastic each with a grey plastic pilot.

I think it's been done like that simply to emphasise the fact you get no colour scheme or transfers, other than the technical stencils.

The Wooksta!

The Huma Hs 132 is a nice if somewhat build, although the fuselage has a circular cross section when it should be more triangular. That information came out after the kit, so it's not surprising.

I've always thought that the Huma kit was based on the old Airmodel vacform. There are some similarities.

I've always enjoyed the Huma kits I've built, shame they are no more.

One of those mornings.

The carpet monster was exceptionally hungry this morning, or it could have been that the AZ bits I dropped were so tiny it thought they were simply the hors d'oeuvres  :-\  And then whilst working on the 109 I came to that psychological moment when you realise you can't do justice to the kit you are working on.  A few years ago I might of been able to, but not now, some of the pieces are almost minute. Happening more and more lately as the standard of new tool kits improves and my issues go the other way  :-\ Still a nice mug of tea, a quick go at the I's crossword and I was up and running again

Must learn that there are some parts, especially interior bits and bobs, that are really not worth getting over heated about and think twice before even attempting to fit them. "I'll know it's there" as an excuse for A Grade frustration doesn't cut it anymore I'm afraid.

Yes indeed, just don't fit the teeny-weeny bits, I do that quite often.

And the same is true with the ZILLIONS of stencil decals you get with many jet kits these days, if you use all of them you can only just even see the paint job! :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Some modern aircraft are just ridiculous. I know it's "accurate" but some Phantom models (especially of Japanese ones) look like model billboards in 1/72 scale.
