I won't say anything else otherwise I'd have to issue myself with a suspension  :-\

Apparently we have a new PM - the bookies are already offering odds on how long  they will last, and I'm not joking  :-\

Put it in a pair of Pyjamas and it could last about nine years

Went out with a couple of ex work colleagues yesterday and we went for a walk in the country  :o  ;D

My old No2 and an ex Dutch colleague who is staying with her for the week. Took the Chilworth Gunpowder Mills walk through the glorious Surrey Hills. It's the site of the old East India Company's gunpowder mills which were opened in 1656 and closed in 1920 after the Great War. Quite a bit of the infrastructure is still there, although completely derelict and overgrown, and the thickness of some of the walls and floors is a site to behold. Lovely country side as well, with oak woods, streams, lakes and some meadows. The bonus ? A great pub at each end, but boy were they posh  ;D  Surrey stockbroker belt or what ? Great day out and well recommended

Thick walls + thin rooves = BOOM! goes up, does less damage. ;)

Indeed. None of the buildings, shells really, had any rooves, however just looking at the beams told you that they weren't that thick. Most of the buildings were divided into 3 or 4 compartments, with equally thick dividing walls, and they were connected by steps to a basement, then a door, and then up another set of steps. Mind you these were all buildings from the Great War period.

The size of the millstones was a sight to behold as well.

The Atomic test building at Shoeburyness are the same, if they went bang the force went upwards. Amazing what you find out from watching Coast.

Orfordness has those funny "pagodas" and is worth a look if you are in the area.

The November edition of SAM has a wonderful photo of an Avro Anson being assembled in India sometime between 1941 and 1945.  There's 15/20 erks, all in pith helmets, manually lowering the fuselage onto the wings (they obviously used a crane for the major part of the lift but it doesn't appear to be attached in the photo) with one guy in the traditional "left a bit, right a bit" pose and another obviously avoiding any hard work if he can, but what you don't see is the giant tube of Humbrol putty all ready to be used on the wing/fuselage joint, unless the new Airfix kit is that good of course  ;D

Interesting article on the Anson and some neat ideas in the profiles section

The test cells at Shoeburyness are U shaped, but horizontal, with light fibreglass roofs and panels closing the open part of the U. If one of the test samples goes 'BANG' it blows the panels off and the blast dissipates across the North Sea or up into the sky.

Or, as in one particular case, when they test a missile with a live rocket booster, the booster fires the missile off towards Holland and the rocket exhaust fries all the hydraulics and electronics and costs the users about £8000 in new parts and time for a suitably qualified engineer to replace them all........  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Just a quick message to let those of you who are aware of my adventures at the weekend that I got back home fine and everything seems to be "a ok" touching all the wood available.  I should have caught up sufficiently with various things by tomorrow (Wednesday) to have the time to resume my "normal" duties and then fill you all in with what happened. In the mean time many thanks to those who were there
