Was having my breakfast this morning minding my own business and watching BBC Breakfast when they surprised me by having a piece on scale modelling in general and Airfix in particular. Mainly concentrating on the new tool 1/24 Spitfire, they chatted to the designer and went to the factory, but they also interviewed a few other modellers as well as commenting on how the hobby had seen a revival during Covid Lockdown etc. It was good to see them having a piece that wasn't talking down and light heartedly but treating "us" as a proper and growing hobby.

It helped that the Spitfire is being produced in the UK of course and it did look gorgeous

Looking at all the bits in the box it frightens me!  :o

There are 244 build steps in the instructions..............  :-\
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yup they actually said that it could take months to build and I think it was that ,that made them realise that we indulge in what is a "serious" hobby

This is exactly what's currently keeping me off the Airfix 1/72 Victor B2.
That said, the Valiant went together very nicely.

I've had one of those for a while now, the one with the Blue Steel underneath it, and I've yet to open the box.......  :-\

I had a similar experience with the Mosquito. The instructions had so many stages that I was put off starting it. When I eventually got around to it I realised that the main reason for it having so many stages was that each one only had a couple of parts and that the build itself was very logical and straightforward. In the end it was quite a simple build, certainly a great fit

Accurate, detailed instructions???   Someone put it in the accident book immediately!!

It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Just thought I'd take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.     Enjoy your modelling regardless of how much progress you seemingly make  ;)

Still no modelling  :-\ , but I have started to think about the coming GB season schedule and sorting out in my own mind when I need to start doing things.

Still no modelling  :-\  However I got my photos sorted for my new passport this morning and all I can say is that without glasses on it's a case of "move over Boris Karlof". I know passport photos are by tradition "iffy" but these are just  :-\  I'll probably get a luggage surcharge just for the bags under the eyes ! Geez I'm getting old.  :banghead:

Just match your appearance with an appropriate amount of old git's grumpiness and you'll be fine.  ;D
