Jet powered c-130 idea

As the C-130 is a bigger aircraft, why not go with pods from a B-52, there's an outfit in the States which makes pods to convert the Revell/Monogram B-52D into a B-52H so you wouldn't have to take parts from a B-52 kit.

Unless you want to fit CFM56's to the buff.

Not sure about the best way to tackle it. I'd considered separating the fuselage section from the wings on the KC-135 centre section and cementing that upside down on the C-130 fuselage. That way t least you'd have a roof. Have to put the wings on right way up though because otherwise, the aerodynamics would be all wrong. Not sure if I'm being clear here but, I think having the underside of the wings facing UP instead of down might look daft?. The KC-135 parts have a handy wing spar built in which is useful. Also, as I recall, the KC-135 has a 130' wingspan which is almost the same as the C-130 ( 132'?) so, shouldn't look out of proportion.

Ideas anyone?

If you used the centre section but upside down, the easiest way to sort out the aero issues is to use the port wing on the starboard side and the starboard one on the port side. That way they're the right way up and sweep in the correct direction too.

I did that with my Grumman S-4B Sentinel which has an inverted 1/120th scale Convair 880 wing centre section with the outer parts swapped port to starbaord.

An age thing? I think I may have more of that actually, being one of the Older Stagers on here.

WOW Love the jet powered C-130. Don't know about VTOL but STOL would be Great!!!!

I know Dougal used an unfinished herc and 4 surplus harriers to do the jet Herc.

For a jet powered version then a slightly swept wing would be better (such as Wooks pointed out ) bu making use of a C-135 wing and possibly engines.

With a VTOL version then you could do with using the engine pods from the Dornier 31 as those are dedicated Pegasus Engine pods. The VTOL thrust can be augmented by using the Lift engine pods from the D0-31 and doubling them up.

The original VTOL proposal for the G-222 would be nice to see as a conversion now the kit is out, although that would look better with the Pegasus pods
