Right here's my next build for this GB.

It's a Royal Netherlands East Indies AF P.39 based in the Northern Territories of Australia in the early part of 1942. 2-VIG-V had been equipped with Buffaloes during the battle for Java but after being virtually wiped out they were reequipped with P-39's upon their arrival in Australia. They served here in the air defence role until early 1943 when they were reestablished as a long range strike squadron equipped with Beaufighters.

Kit is the Academy one and is the fourth I've built and the fourth I've made the same silly error on  :banghead: Leave enough space for the cockpit/nose wheel bay assembly when putting the weight in the nose  It's a really nice little kit and has no vices really. Paints are standard Xtracrylic Olive Drab and Neutral Grey. I used a USAF Vietnam green for the leading and trailing edge blotches. Markings are from a DP Casper Sheet : "Battle of the Java Sea" which has 25 options on it. They are intended for a Buffalo of the same unit. These are very good sheets. Transfers behave well but leave the backing paper with alacrity, dip them and remove them. I've gone for the national flag scheme as it's not as common as the orange triangle and for some reason I'm not to keen on said triangle, don't know why just feel a bit "iffy" about it.

Anyway that's the chat, here's the model

Very smart Chris. Looks the part and very believable back story too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Very nice, Chris.  I've always been partial to the P-39.

Nice one Chris.  Never built a P-39 myself, one in the stash ready to become an Airacobra I (I say ready - Ha! It might get built in the next quarter century if I last that long!!).

Forgot to mention in the blurb that this build was inspired by a profile by our own Panther G who did a number of profiles of Dutch P-39's. That set up the germ of an idea and the GB confirmed it.

So thanks Panther

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Amazing work....

Thanks Panther, I'm quite please with it. It was your profile the sent the brain on its path  ;D

This would look nice against my Fokker D.XXIIIM that won the Pegasus competition a couple of years ago.
