Old Wombat

I'd revert to the B-24/B-17 idea as the High ball system required mod's which, basically, removed the bomb bays anyway & both are spot-on for the time line.

It's a neat concept, by the way ;D, but I still think I prefer the Lanc. (call me a traditionalist ;) )

The trouble with using a B-24 is that the main keel structure of the aircraft goes right down the centre line of the bomb bay. When you look at photos of B-24s with the bomb doors slid open you can see it quite clearly. To carry an Upkeep bomb under there would need some MASSIVE structural changes to the airframe itself. Avro didn't have that problem as the Lancaster's main fuelage structural beam went along the top of the bomb bay.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Well folks here are my photos from the Newcastle show, and the quality is not as good as usual for me as I was having to use the digital compact camera, also my brain was in a rather FRAZZLED state. Why?

Last Tuesday, my wife Grace and I flew from Prestwick to Rome with Ryanair, the lowcost airline. Hand luggage only (10Kg limit) as it costs £40 to check in a single case, so one camera, one lens. Night stopped outside Rome (Frascati) next day drove across Italy to the east coast, it is only about a three hour drive, where the next day we met up with Grace's elder sister at the Sangro River War Graves Cemetery to scatter some of their Mothers ashes over the grave of her first husband. A very moving occasion.

Thursday afternoon, some sightseeing during which the internal mechanism of my A/F lens decided to collapse. This left me with a camera that had to be used in manual focus and with no control over exposure settings which did work fine in good lighting.

Next day, Friday, drove back to Rome but with time in hand for a side trip....... The Italian Air Force Museum at Vigne De Valle.
The day was perfect maybe just a bit too hot (28C) but the museum is fantastic.
If you ever get the chance to go there, do so, just make sure your camera is not F*&^%d, as mine was. Some of the photos have come out not bad but many were unusable due to camera shake.

Saturday, our flight was not due out until late evening so we drove to Anzio, had a really nice meal at the harbourside, and visited two other War Grave Cemeteries (Anzio and Beachead).
What is the point of war?

Anyway, to the photos of  the Northern Model Show.

First, the SIG Stand.

Other Stuff

The Wooksta's Speed Spitefull which won it's class in the competition, and quite rightly so.

This one really struck home for me as my late father sailed on this ship during her 1935-36 Far East cruise.

And lastly, Lenny 100 had this on display on the SIG Stand. This is not that one as we ate it! I got this one in my local Sainsburys, and scanned the box for your delight.

That's al for the moment folks.

What an excellent show gentlemen, and excellent pics too Jim.

I note an increase in the number of re-engined Ar-555s yet again.  ;D

And was that an FAA EAP in 892 NAS markings? It looks superb.
