'Markings change' Whiffs are just as valid as a totally scratchbuilt result of someone's imagination, and should have a place in any such book. Plus that type of model makes an excellent introduction into Whiffworld, it costs no more than any other model, and gets your brain into the right mode for accepting this particular state of mind.

It IS the state of mind that's important here, the thought that you DON'T have to have the altimeter visually calibrated in metres on a 1/72 Me262 to make it an acceptable model. I don't think there's a 'ladder of achievement', all the rungs are on the same level.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

the old question -- if you don't know it exists, why / where do you look for it ?

I think that recruiting a young modeller via aunty's present is an extremely rare possibility.  Most would be a member of a model-club or visit a model shop (if such a thing is local) where other modellers would make the book known if the youngster didn't have the internet himself.  As a kid 3/4 of the guys in my school-class built models so that's what we talked about at lunchtime -- I guess that's rare among kids today.  In fact we built models at school in "hobby class" until we were told "that isn't a hobby" & were forced to make comb-cases with rafia :-\

I have recruited 4 whiffers on Hyperscale in the last 6mths - I see that some came here, some went to BtS (I posted both URLs as both sites offer slightly different content).  There are others that didn't respond to an invite (maybe thought it was spam) but our ranks of the Insane are growing.
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

Padded cell '46.

Back in the deep dark past. Lee ran his own self published "fanzine" for our side of the hobby.
As the name hints, the bulk of the content covered Luftwaffe 46, as was the vogue at the time, and all so one of Lee's interests. It wasnt all German subjects thou, a good smattering of UK, Japanese and US subjects could be found inside the covers. Many of them submitted by a small loyal band of readers.

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Ah cheers mate - what happened to the fanzine?

The Wooksta!

I moved to bigger and better things - I did the design & production work on two of John Baxter's books.

An 'idiots guide' would be ideal, with lots of pictures of showing 'how to' and 'what happens if'. It could also feature a section on what happens if you make a mistake, or how to correct an error.
How to build on a budget and household items that can be used.

I'd buy it.

If this idea goes ahead you can use any of my builds as material.

Heh  Thanks, that might be good!

Oh, that's good news to me. I thought my technique in painting by hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Paper, paint, paper paint, ah must use primer next time.

Likewise, you can use any of my exisiting builds/pics if they're up to standard, publication-wise.

If circumstances were different I'd offer to contribute new stuff, but in all responsibility, I daren't commit myself: Mum only has to have a fall and my schedule for the next few weeks goes right down the drain at zero notice.... :banghead:

No worries mate - I understand, and thanks for the offer.  I think I should begin by generating a shortlist of contributers & their articles.  Then I can fill in around that.
