Boeing/BAC Triton MR1

After an enforced absence due to an unforeseen accident involving my right hand! ( no smutty comments PLEASE!! Lol!!, I finally finished. Aircraft is in 120 Sqn markings circa 1980. Serial XV246 belongs to a Nimrod ! Hope you like her. As always, I welcome your constructive comments, criticism and advice & suggestions.

That looks a pretty mean device, and the colour scheme makes a nice change from all-over Hemp or Grey.   

Presumably it's 1/72, looking at the Tamiya pot in one piccie?

You're correct. I used the 1/72 Heller E3B as the basis. The longer fuselage of the Boeing 707-320 on which E3 is based was perfect for providing the forward weapons bay. The kit also has the bonus of proving TWO sets of engines! All I need do now is find somwehere to put it. This is a seriously big model !!
A pity there seems to be a total lack of ASW stores available either in kits or, as accessories. A belly full of torpedoes and/or ASMs would have been nice. I had also considered underwing pylons but, the general lack of suitable whizz bangs to hang upon them put paid to that!

The Airfix Sea King has 4 x Mk 46 torpedoes and 4 x depth charges which may help? You could hang some Harpoons under the wings too.

In the RW the Triton would have carried a set of Lindholme Gear too, just in case they came across any shipwrecked mariners, but I've never managed to find a decent photo of the Lindholme stuff to model any.

Only the original Airfix Seaking has the ASW weapons, because they went with the crab air yellow peril they dropped the weapons when they revised the mould to a Westland.

The best source for MPA kit is the Airfix Nimrod as that has Torpedos, Harpoon and the SAR gear

Looks nice!   Another source for weapons might be one of the resin weapons' bay kits for the Gannet.

Colours were as follows ;
Underside - Humbrol 64 Light Aircraft Grey
Upper surfaces - Xtracrylix XA1137 Light Gull Grey
                            "          XA1126 Intermediate Blue
Revell Aqua colour Blaugrau 79

Apart from the underside ( Humbrol rattle can!), the rest was hand painted. I prefer it that way. I don't own an airbrush.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and suggestions re ordnance. I'll probably update the model later and post further pictures when done.

Well, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and, I'm delighted that my meagre effort has possibly inspired you to build your own. Perhaps a Triton based at RAAF Edinburgh ? . I live in Edinburgh myself but, my Edinburgh is about 10,000 miles away from YOUR Edinburgh!! Lol!

I think it would look really smart in the early grey/white scheme with the PROPER RAAF roundels & insignia - not that dreadfully dull low viz stuff nowadays..
RAF Leuchars was privileged to host a RAAF Boeing 707 some years ago. A big  (and very rare and pleasant)surprise! Never forgotten the comment of one of the spectators nearby  as it approached to land;
"Blimey, it's got ruddy Kangaroos painted on it"!
