Never a truer word spoken, I've got two Airfix, one Revell and I would like to add at least one of each.  I rue not picking up a second Revell kit when they were on offer at Modelzone a few months back.

Robert, it doesn't have to be a 'Rotodyne'.  I'm willing to allow any type of convertiplane (including tilt-rotors), although you get extra brownie points if it's tip driven. Methods of tp dive can be different too, early helicopters such as the Brennan helicopter and helicogyre used propellers at the rotors tips.

The idea is to assume that the gyrodyne concept was successful and the Rotodyne entered service.  So what would the Rotodyne have looked like in service, what would competitors have come up with, either as direct rivals or new concepts?  Also, what would be entering service now and to twist the timeline a bit more, what might have proceeded it to inspire the concept and make it more likely to succeed?

The Groen Brothers website is worth looking at, they have attempted to resurrect the Gyrodyne concept.  So far I haven't seen anything of it, it seems the DARPA funding promised has not materialised.  They've proposed a prototype based on the Adam A700 and conversions of existing aircraft that are very kitbashable.

I've got an idea which is something close to one of those Groen projects, I've got to see if I can make some rotors for it first though, because my plan is to use some 1/35 Chinook rotor blades.  I've already tried to get some spares from Trumpeter but nothing came from the request so I might try to drop one in rubber and see how it comes out.

Could you shape some from plastic strip?  I had an aborted attempt at the HS Helicrane and managed to make a blade from laminated plastic strip, shaped on a household orbital sander held upside down.  The intention was to make a single master, then cast the rest so they'd all end up the same shape, but I never got around to it.

Mossie. Let me know what you want to call the GB, what you are prepared to include in the GB (types of aircraft etc) and time period if you want one, but I think you should leave it open ended as these things have a natural lifespan anyway, and I'll set her up for you, with you as Mod

Well I've already got a 1/35 Chinook to use, I've got another project (Quad Tilt Rotor) that I want to use the sponsons from it too, but it looks like I'll have to do those myself as well --- and as I don't really want to have a bunch of 1/35 helicopter parts left over, I'll build the Chinook too (unless I can off-load it after I've made my moulds).

I've renamed it the Rotodyne and Convertiplane Themed build so as to better describe what's included.  Out of the box, there are the Rotodyne kits and Italeri V-22's in both 1/72 and 1/48.  A Model I think do some if you want something a little challenging, Sharkit and Anigrand both do resin kits of several subjects.

You can count me in!! I have a pair of Rotodyne kits in my stash. I had in mind  a military transport version and, an armed assault transport  - sort of a SUPER Hind type!
