US desert sand

How was the desert sand that some US planes (usually bombers) used in Mediterranean Theater of Operations during WWII?
Is it desert Pink?

Looks more sand than pink from what I can tell looking at B-24s and B-25s.

That ANA 616 looks like Humbrol 250, no?

Looking at a Humbrol paint chart they look pretty close to me.
