Meanwhile I am moving on to a Gerry Anderson tribute build, involving an old Airfix kit. It's an idea so obvious I'm amazed nobody's done it before. Or maybe they have and I missed it. Anyway, nice simple build, if I can get all the bits to line up, then a simple paint job. Hope to do it quickly, maybe a week or two. Which means November, obviously.

Cue the endless links to a million builds of same. Bit of progress, trying to fill all the holes which is taking some time..

Hairyfix Frightning progressing slowly. Rather rough kit, with lots of filler needed at pretty much every join. Filled the nose section with surplus airgun pellets - I squashed about a dozen in so it shouldn't tailsit hopefully. Cockpit is non-existent, so this one will be black, with a pilot in the misshapen seat. Have to find the right shade of blue for the flight suit....

I am currently mostly watching glorious '80s mecha anime, so am getting a huge hankering to attack one of the related kits in the stash. Must be disciplined, though - I have several more builds that just need a bit of a push and they will be finished. The Skyraider, a Skyhawk, the Curtis Racer and the bloody Meteor will all be done first.

After ~5 months, I have started building something again! Doing some more painting of the Skyhawk, re-thinking the Meteor colours, and have started an Airfix Spitfire IX. This is the first in a planned trio of builds on a theme. The Spit is being built OOB, and is going together very nicely. Bit of a gap to fill at the wing roots, but other than that it's excellent (although the cockpit is almost non-existent, you can't see it when closed up so it's not an issue). It will be British, but not RAF, FAA or any research establishment. That's all I'm saying on the matter...

Bit of progress on teh Spit - mostly together, ready for priming. Scribed in (badly) a few missing panel lines on the underside, cannons and radiators are on, painting the legs and wheels at the moment. Hoping for a good evening tomorrow so I can spray the main colours.

Progress! Done a bit of modelling for the first time in ages (possibly my brain finding a way to avoid doing the assignments I have looming). A little more work on the Spitfire (which will be a chaseplane for a very interesting machine, to be built at a future date) - just painting the small bits before I try and spray the main colours - and I've dug out one of the many, many unfinished builds from the "stalled" pile - a Tornado alternative, which will wear Gulf War colours and weaponry. This will hopefully continue if I can build up a bit of momentum. Both should look pretty good when finished. :) I may try and get a big batch of spraying done if I can get A) a good day which is warm enough or B) bodge together some kind of spray booth in my kitchen. This is the key point holding up a lot of my part-complete builds - spraying the main colours is required.

A little more progress on the big'un - making pylons. Tornado belly rails, F-15 wing pylons, and some plasticard. Trying to decide on loadout now - Paveways + TIALD, ALARMs or a mixture?? Or a shedload of iron bombs...? Hindenburger tanks are a given.

Shed loads of iron bomb always look good

Added IFR probe and fairing. Kit bit from a Tornado, the white bit is the shaft of a cotton wool bud.

Any guesses as to what the base kit is?

Looks like the 1/72 Trumpeter Xian FBC-1 (alias JH-7) Flying Leopard?

Got it in one! It will be Spinners' SEPECAT Panther, which he did in his Strike Fighters topic a couple of years ago. I am doing a couple of modifications, though...
