Another thought is small light cannon for the small boats that 'leak through the net' of protective ships. Would it be worth having some way of repelling these small attackers?
I look for such smaal boat swarm tactics to become more common in the future, especially with suicidal nationalist sailors.

@Go4fun: Today I would say yes, but in the mid 60s? I think small attackers/terrorist attacks were not really on the scope at that time.

Here we go with the Graf Zeppelin:

The lift openings in the hull, some mechanics for the lifts are added left and right. Inside the hull, the base for the hangar deck can be seen (I want to add a visible hangar deck to it).

The afterwards mounts for the 15cm guns are now closed

The Stern, now more closed than on the original

The island superstructure. After some dicussions, I modified it. The funnel is now integrated into the island structure. The structure itself is made longer, so that the flight control could be added at the end of it. Makes more sense this way than in the first design.  The complete structure moved a bit towards the stern, so that the funnel is on the same location as it was when it was a standalone one. This give more space in front of the island, so I will place the missle launcher there.

I am still thinkin if I should add some 12,4cm gun mounts as well. But I am not sure where to place them.

This weeks progress on the Graf Zeppelin:

While a lot of sanding is going on on the rear part of the flight deck, I made some tests for the forward part of it.
It will be a bit longer and I will try to close the open bow section of the ship. The old catapults will be removed and replaced by a new steam catapult.

A bit more work on the superstructure, the mount for the SPG-55 missile directors has been added an a first testpained is added.

Next work will continue on the flight deck and to work a bit on the superstructure again.

The flight deck has now got it extension at the bow, the old catapults are removed.

I added a first layer of paint, to see where additional putty and sanding is required.

On the superstructure, I might add a second RIM-2 Terrier missile launcher in front of the island. I am still unsure if I should add some 12,7 cm guns to the ship or if I should stay with 4 missile launchers and maybe some small aa guns.

The first test for the closed bow, have to work a bit on it to get the shape right.

Before leaving for a vacation, the latest progress on the Graf Zeppelin

The forward part of the flight deck is now doubled to give more strength to the structure. Several rounds of putty, sanding, test paint are done, but it still needs a bit of work.
On the stand, the name-plate is done as well  ;D

A test for the carrier planes. While I think I will mostly add some A7 to it, I tested the German Marineflieger color scheme on a F4 (which might be to heavy to be used on the GZ)

The bow is now closed and wip. This part also requires some work.

Work is now going on on three parts:
1) The hull: When the bow is finished, the hangar will be next. After this has been done, painting of the hull can start.
2) Flight deck: Putty and sanding until everything is fine, then I have to add a new catapult (the GZ will only get one)
3) Superstructure: Its mostly done, but I am still testing some alternatives for the armament.

While the Graf Zeppelin is still under construction, something else left NöNö Bärs shipyard - a German Minehunter 1935.

This was just a quick build, a old 1/400 Heller kit which is a bit difficult to get those days. Its part of the big Heller Kriegsmarine box, where two of those are included.

I can only show this side of the model, as something went badly wrong with the final finish on the other side  :banghead: . So better hide it...

This time, it was to do some paint jobs.

After the bow was is closed, a first paint layer was added to make it easier to find those spots where some putty&sanding is required.

The island structure is now completed with its antennas, and directors, so painting can be started here as well

Besides doing the last corrections on the bow, I now work in the hangar deck and add the catapult to the flight deck.

This week, there was a bit general progress in superstructure, hull and flight deck:

The hull is now complete, and I started with the final paint. On the flight deck, the catapult has been added  -and I am still wondering how to mark it best on the deck, only painting or try to engrave it?
Additionally, I started with the aircraft production, the count has now increased by 100% :)
Inside the hull, I started with the hangar, whose sections that will be later visible from the outside.

Paining of the GZ hull continues and work as been done on the hanger inside.

A single catapult is now added

I will now mainly work on the hull and hanger to get it done before returning to the flight deck.

While the Graf Zeppelin is still a way to go (more about this later), another ship left NöNö Bärs shipyard:

A Revel 1:700 FFG-7  U.S.S. O.H.Perry

Build out-of-the-box, with some photoeched guard rail.
