A non-whatif this time, but it fits to some other recent models here.

The HMS Kelly, a 1/700 scale Matchbox kit. Build OOB, just with some additional PE parts and crew. I could not find an nice camo for it, so its just in plain grey.

A little comparison with other WW2 destroyers from the USA, German and Japan.

Nice build, interesting comparison shot with the other destroyers

Looks terrific, and the Rodney looks ENORMOUS by comparison!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

You could always have a go at Mountbatten Pink.      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountbatten_pink   After all, Kelly was Mountbatten's ship     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Kelly_(F01)

I'm most impressed with this micro-fleet of yours.

Kelly carried, beyond the all-light grey some interesting schemes.
The PE rails really make a difference.  Looks very good, I also have a K-Class destroyer (Revell re-boxing) in the stash with no real plan yet.

You have the aft main mount right - the K's could not point it directly astern!
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Inspired by Dizzyfugu's Fletcher-class DD I thought to make my own What-If form one of those kits I have.

And I think, my engineer already has a plan.

So this is what we take, Revell's re-release of the old Matchbox kit.

This is in the box:

And my engineer seems to think a lot what to do with this.

As a starter, lets begin with the hull, but make it a bit more colorful than usual (the yellow stirs are still Tamiya tape <g> )

;D Nice idea.... But not for this one, maybe for soemthing else :)

However, I wanted to add US colors on the hull. Blue. White. Red. But after removing the tapes, the fist imression I had was  "welll, this is french"..... :) Now I have to see what ot make form it

It's probably the light blue that's so disturbing. A darker shade might look more American?

Well, this has to be tested.
But there are only very few french ships here anyway, so I guess the French "Jules Verne" would also be ok...

Well, I now tested a darker blue - and it looked even more french...:)

Original:

Darker:

This is definitely a hint to me - so it will be a French ship. The "Jules Verne".

While the forward superstructure is mainly original, the central one with the funnels is modified, all torpedoes are removed, added some more boats and life rafts to it:

The "Jules Verne" will be a DSRV carrier. So I need a DSRV. This one is 3D printed form a model i found at Thingiverse. The rack for it is still under construction, i printed a first test which does fit, now i make it a bit "nicer".

The ship will need a huge crane, I build one using spare parts, I think this one is taken from the leftovers of a Bismarck kit
