In 1959 Supermarine proposed several schemes for an advanced naval fighter, the chosen aircraft was the type 576 ,powered by two reheated RR RB146's. The outer wings were extended and thinned and extra wing hardpoints added inboard of the existing ones. the enlarged fuselage spine carried dorsal tanks containing 450 gallons of fuel and space for a new avionocs fit. Feranti airpass radar was fitted in a new nose radome. For the interceptor role the Scimitar could carry four Firestreak or Redtop missiles.
Twenty new build aircraft were delivered in 1963 ,with another 30 converted from existing Scimitar aircraft. In service the Scimitar FRS 2 ,as it became known ,could reach Mach 1.6 at 45,000ft.

So how did you build it and what scale is it please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Thanks Kit,
    it's to 1/48 scale and is a conversion of the old Nimbus/Contrail vacform , with a widened rear fuselage, with modified Tornado jetpipes , extended wingtips and a built up spine/dorsal fairing. Forward part of the dorsal fairing and canopy are from a Hawk trainer. Wing tanks are scratchbuilt and Red Tops are from a Lightning, with decals from the spares box.

Anyone who could even start that mish-mash of vace'd bits is a genius! I was expecting you to say it started as the current Xtrakit version or the Skybirds wonder-kit.
