There's also the plastic Trumpy Liberty ships and Battlefleet Model's resin C-1 Cargo ship kit.  A lot of the Liberty's were converted for civilian use postwar and served for a long time.  You could almost liken them to the DC-3.  There are also many Japanese merchant kits that could easily be used.  There is a distinct lack of modern merchant ships in resin or plastic.  Finding plans and scratch building may be the only route for a good while.

All you have to do is a Google search for "Shipping container emergency shelters" or some other similar term, and you'll see plenty of sites and companies that suggest and/or build shipping containers as homes, offices, and emergency disaster shelters.

Ooooooo, you could have Skycrane type helos aboard to transport them and/or a deck of big rigs with a Ro/Ro type ramp or even an LST bow door for beaching or driving onto pontoon bridges!  Neat idea

They're called "Containerized Housing Units," and I lived in one for 10 months in Iraq, and they're all about 20x8x10.  Two can live comfortably, 4 or more make tight quarters, and for 1, it becomes a small studio apartment.


Not the most commodious of residences, but they work when there's no infrastructure, the infrastructure doesn't meet requirements, etc.

Trumpeter do the USS Sacramento and Detroit.  Re-jig the superstructue a bit and you've got yourself a fast container ship.  Alternatively, if you wanted something older you could convert one of their a Liberty Ships.

I looked that one up. A supply ship that did 30 knots! 
I swore I would not start another project until I finished the Super Blackhawk. Well, its a small project. I had a 1200 scale Yorktown laying around so I started on that. Tiny but looking good so far. Pics tomorrow.

Slight spin ball here, one of the Lun ekranoplans was slated for conversion into the Spasatel, which was fitted out for disaster relief.  Work was well under way when money ran out due to the collapse of the USSR.  It could be fitted with 80 hospital beds or carry 500 people in standard seating.  It could be converted quickly to adapt to several roles including a floating hospital.  It could ferry personnel to a disaster, launch boats and it was even proposed to carry a min-sub piggyback for rescue of submarines.

It was also proposed to fit out the A90 Orlyonok for the same role and piggyback it on an An-225.

I found some other cargo ships by IMEX on other websites. Could be players. They are not always standard warship scales so finding scale aircraft could be a challenge.
