Hi everybody !

Here is my first post : a 1/72 Hawker P1121 from S&M model, as it could have been around 1968-70.

The underwing weapons are Martel ARM (from an airfix buccaneer). Decals thanks to hunters (X-tradecal sheet, with the kit) and lightnings (tiger stripes on the nose from model alliance sheet if i remember well...)
I think this plane would have been more a strike aircraft than a true fighter.
The kit is a bit simplistic (compared to other resin brands), warped (fuselage), but buildable ....
On the pics, it looks like a tail sitter, but it is not : the main legs were apparently very short on the project.
Some details were added on the undercarriage (retraction struts)... Well, it 's not evident on those pics... ;D

Welcome aboard Mr Ten, cracking model!

Yeap a rather nice way to introduce yourself to the forum

Yes the S&M resin kit was rather inspired by the Vacform kit using the original Barrier Hygate drawings, created using traditional modelling methods. It could probably benefit from the newer CAD/Prototyper methods now favoured by some of the resin & plastic companies.

Very nice indeed. I have the Whirlykits vacform in the stash, which I assume is the kit Thorvic's referring to.

That's what could be called a 'Grand Entrance' Mr Ten!  ;D

Cracking looking model.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks for all your comments...  ;D
I have Barry Hygate's book, and i compared the S&M kit with his drawings before building. The shapes are globally the same, with some differences : length or wing chord... I don't remember
No matter to me, because it's a "what if"... And the final plane could have been different from the unfinished prototype...
The weakest point of the kit is the canopy : only one, very thin and far from a perfect transparency !
As i'm not seasoned in vacuforming new canopies, i used it : it has a correct shape and once carefully cut, it goes in place without pain.
The kit contained also 4 very basic underwing tanks...
But this aircraft needs more punch ! So let's go with some missiles !
So  the main question to me was : is it a fighter/interceptor, or a tactical fighter ? With a silver finish or a two tone camo ?
You see my decision now ! ;D
Painting is entirely done with Tamiya sprays, except the radar (with citadel spray).

Actually i was referring to the Maintrack kit produced from the Hygate drawings  ;), the Whilybirds kit is the maintrack kit with a few resin parts to add detail and strength

Looks good. Another one of those "coulda be a contender" ideas that didn't quite make it in the RW.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Good job, 74 Sqn markings look good on it.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Nice one - well done!

Wellcome aboard especially with an entrance like that. Terrific model
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
