First look at the Sea Corsairs. Also a visiting Walrus. The catapaults in their positions. I went and bought another 6 pack of Seahawks so I could fix my wing mistakes....besides, I needed that excuse to buy more to build the Corsair on floats.

Captain Canada

Thanks Chris. Can't remember who or when, but saw one here and immediately fell in love. Not as much as that Sea Typhoon in the tropical setting, but pretty close !

Anybody who saw my earlier photos could easily tell that my first catapault set really sucked. During research to correct my incorrect Seahawk wing fold, I noticed just how wrong my catapaults looked ! So I reworked them to look more like a USN P-6. I never knew they used shells either ! Cool beans.....anyway, thanks again Cliffy !

And one more look at the airwing alongside the painted cats.

That's a really novel build Cap'n. I'm a big seaplane/flying boat fan and seeing all those aircraft AND a mother ship is really great.

What's that about shells and catapults then? Did they use shells to fire the cradles along the track?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Ya.....8" artillery shells ! Attack Squadron kit #72001 US Navy Catapult P Mark VI has an excellent .pdf download of their kit instructions. Also found some awesome photos of a Kingfisher being launched where you could see the blast come out of the deflector tube.

And thanks for the comment..I am really enjoying this build. I love the idea of a floating base too !

Had a chance to work on this yesterday so here's todays update :

Hacked off the locators for the ships boats. I figure since we're at sea I'd have the boats in the water and use this space for storage of oils and fuel etc, as well as a/c.

Also added the hose drum and suppoprt ( seat part from Italeri Merlin chopper ) for the refueling boom

Took the cannon from a Tamiya Tirpitz kit and added the shield and ammo drum to look more like USN 20mm

Here's what they look like on the ship. Probably going to paint the barrel gunmetal...or maybe not !

Thanks again, Chris ! Glad somebody's watching  !

Still plugging away at her....drilling out holes, sanding out flaws, seeing where I can improve it or add a few details. I'm hoping to start the base for it this weekend, and then maybe 2 weeks from now be ready for the open seas.....

Still looking at pics on the web. Found that if I actually type in the class name there are plenty of new results, which is both good and bad, as it offers the chance to add more details, yet prolongs the project !

Figured since we'll be moored might as well have this door open.....

Built a sheet card box to fill the space. Going to add a few bits to busy it up...

The poles that swing out to support the boats appear to be timber so I fashioned a pair out of tooth pics. Besides, who doesn't love wood ?

This is going to be one of those projects that just grows, isn't it ? Labour of love

Captain Canada

Ya you bet Chris. I was going to start the base this weekend, but ran out of time. I figure, if I have it down on the base, that will finally force me to put all the bits together !

Yup, it will need a base and will then be a really nice diorama
