.....As she looked in 1946 just after her decommissioning overhaul. 297' oal. 6 14" main guns, 4 5"/38 single mounts, 5 quad 40mm, and 14 single 20mms. I built the wood hull about 10 years ago as an ocean going Monitor yielding a single 16"50 cal turret. As I had scrapped a Banner 1/350th Arizona, I figured I needed a WWI era US Navy Monitor, as modernized in 1942-43.

This is the stuff that happens at 0300 when you cannot sleep

Looks like an SD California-class.  Nice use of insomnia ;)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I like that. Very monitor-y.
I can imagine it squatting off Europe blasting away at pillboxes and the replying fire missing fore and aft because it's so short.  ;D
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

It's cute, all right, but you might have to break out the oars to get it around---looks like there isn't any room for boilers, turbines, etc.

Maybe "podded" external propulsion (reminiscent of "Habakkuk")?

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Looks impressive. It reminds me of some of those large monitors the Russians used early last century.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Yeah apparently the original boilers & turbines from a DD class only provided 12 knots. She was upgraded to diesels in the '30s.

12 Knots plus would have made her the Greyhound of Monitors   ;D ;D

Not nearly as "sexy" or seemingly as capable, my "Furashita's Fleet" included something similar made from old pre-dreadnoughts, the "Rhode Island" class:

Nice, congrats!
I'd say it's a cute little ship, but still deadly :D
