Hey guys, what a great site.  This is right up my alley.  Its seems I can never build a model right oob, and have to put my own spin or signature on a subject.  I have only been building planes since last October (2011) (except for a few I built back in the 80s).  I am thoroughly enjoying building 1/32 ww2 fighters especially Mustangs.  Here are a few of the what-ifs that I have built.  Granted they mostly revolve around paint, but I hope to get creative enough to come up with some kit bashes in the future.

My USAAF Night Fighter Spitfire....(Revell 1/32 Spitfire MK1)

My Reno Air Racer "Spirit of Nevada".....(Tomy 1/32 P-51D)

My P-51B Restored Personal Hack "Full Bird" (Revell 1/32 P-51B)

And a couple of 1/48 scale birds:
P-51B Bendix Trophy Racer "Dutch Treat" sponsored by  NAA (Monogram P-51B)

Lockheed Ventura PV-1 converted to Cleveland Air Race VIP Transport (Revell PV-1)

I have a few more in the works, and will probably be posting up them as in-progress threads.

Thanks for a great site!!!!

A few more "normal" builds since last Oct....
Hasegawa 1/32 P-51D "The Galloping Ghost"

Airfix 1/24 P-51D "The Galloping Ghost"

Revell 1/32 P-51B

I can say that, 'cos I'm a little left of field myself...

YMMV of course, but there you go. ;D

Nice builds, look forward to seeing more as time progresses.

NARSES2

Wellcome aboard. There's some really nice builds there
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Those look great!  1/32 planes are so impressive in person.  I built an 1/32 F-4 Phantom and a Zero in a former life.  I may have to follow your lead!

Very nice work!

Always good to see big-scale whiffs: they're the antidote to the self-depreciating "well 1/72nd's cheap enough to waste" psychology (which I'm as guilty of as anyone else).

ditto from me -- that National Air Races Harpoon / Ventura is a very nice change from just the fighters too
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

WOW!!!

What a reception, thank you guys very very much.  I have been hanging out at a few other sites, and have had a blast and steered myself back towards some more traditional builds.  But I figure I really need to get back to releasing some of my own creative energy.  And this place is amazing to jump start that and for some inspiration and ideas.  There is some amazing stuff here.  I am going to be taking some pics of some of my "original" automotive builds and post them up in the car section.

I have had a blast building the 1/32 planes, there is no other way to go in my opinion.  And I dont have a problem at all buying up all those old Revell kits that the detailers hate.  They are perfect for what I do.

The finish on the Spirit of Nevada is Model Masters Metalizer Aluminum Plate, and that was a chore to decal and handle.  And my Ventura was supposed to be a Lockheed 12, but thats only available in 1/72 for a fortune....but I got the look I wanted from the new Revell kit.

Here is a teaser for another Mustang I am starting...I will make a WIP thread for it.......(My Night Fighter Spit needs a buddy...)

And a couple of WIP pics from the above builds.

And a Mustang that I presented my son-in-law upon his graduation from Air Force Officer Training

And a P-39 to round out a trio for my Cleveland Air Racing Set

Oh....and "the office" ;D

Thanks again!!!!!!!

I love those Reno machines!

A local model store offers resin conversion kits for 1:72 scale models - have always been tempted, but never dared. Beautiful.

Yes, nice stuff.

When you want to "make a splash", might as well make it a "cannonball"!

Welcome to the madhouse. We'll get our tailor to properly fit you with your personally-mongrammed straitjacket.

There seems to be a theme here, so, now in the planning stages a race modified Mustang, appropriately named....
