What if the RAF had done mass daylight raids (yes, I know they did) and used the USAAF idea of formation assembly ships.
War Weary Halifax and Lancasters in pretty colours?? :banghead: :banghead:

Only if the mid-upper gunner gets to fly on top of the fuselage with stunning, long, flowing silver cape.

wasn't there a real Halifax once ... black with broad diagonal yellow stripes (Airfix boxart ?) ??  maybe a target-tow aircraft ?  ((I well remember the  Canberra TT  I saw above me on holiday many yrs ago).

Would like to see a few of these Radish ! ---- NMF Lanc with coloured spots, Wellington with diagonals & V-shapes in various striped colours .....

They must have had fun painting that B-17.  ;D

The whole idea of an RAF formation ship goes against everything that the rational mind knows. Which is EXACTLY why we should do it!  ;D

Although I'm not doing a spotty anything, I've had my life's ration of spots with the the 'First Sergeant'!

A night formation ship with early versions of slime lights and phoshorent paint, OMG Yes!

Some Halifax and Lancs in fancy colours would look ace. Maybe we would have seen the cannon armed bombers (specification B1/39) with their 8x 20mm cannons, as well as maybe the updated HP.65 and HP.66 Super Halifax proposals for 'fast' heavy bombers.

Have always liked the 'fax more than the Lanc. Underrated imo.

Could you see a set of these on the tables at Telford?

I might even have to try one for the Nats next year (for the SIG table, of course).

I've sometimes thought about RAF form up birds.  I have a feeling that RAF aircraft would have been more sobre and uniform, maybe with some variations due to initial paint stocks and different interpretations of the regs.

That said, it wouldn't be anything near as fun!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

Oh yes.  The Stirling in checkers and Halifax in stripes just look so right.

Wonderful stuff there JayBee.

That 2nd Lanc, with the red/white/blue stripes across the wings looks perfect for the job.
