With Airfix releasing their 1/48 Jackal and Coyote kits sometime in the near future, thought it was worth having a thread.

They've got that moon buggy look, so sci-fi treatment perhaps?  A bit of scalo-rama would go nicely, 1/72, 1/44 even for hoooge vehicle?

Enlosed cabin.  Supacat are onto this, have a look at the 6th pic in their gallery:
http://www.supacat.com/products/defence/hmt/hmt-600/hmt-600-gallery/

The large flatbed of the Coyote/HMT 600 will be pretty useful for mounting pretty much anything, command cabin, fire fighting gear, launchers, guns, radar etc.  Supacat have loaned the Bloodhound SSC team a pair of HMT 600's which shows this well, also see the above pic:

Dakar rally.  Supacat have entered into an agreement to lisence the Bowler Wildcat for military use.  How about using the Jackal/HMT 400 in a rally role?  Completely revise the superstructure, loose the armour plating and you should have a pretty pokey vehicle.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

How about aircraft support vehicles for off-base operations? You could have a fuelling vehicle with the pumps towing a tanker trailer, a fire-fighting vehicle, an aircraft tug, a weapons carrier etc...

There was a build review of the Coyote in the latest issue of Airfix Modelling World, when that happens it usually means release is imminent.

Found a video of the parts breakdown on the Airfix site, might be useful for anyone attempting a conversion:

The Jackal reminds me of an updated AS42:

The 1/35 Italeri kit is quite nice, and speaking of Dakar, mine is slated for a
Dakar '47 build.  ;D

You need Accurate Armour's kits, and a lotto win (especially with export to Oz)!  Very nice, but expensive 1/35 resin garage kits:

BW Models also do both in 1/76 white metal, again, expensive garage kits:

I read that the SAS are very much thinking of aqcuiring them.  Although to be honest, if the need was there, I'm sure they'll have borrowed a few already.  Wouldn't be a heavy whiff, just a bit of extra kit, unless you wanted to paint it pink! ;)

The Australian SASR has about a dozen or so.  I've seen them driving occasionally around the suburbs here in Perth.  Interesting vehicles but they look too open for my liking.  I also wonder about their survivability versus IED.  Of course SASR get all the weird and exotic kit they like, as "Special Forces" have come into their own in the mind of Government.
