Nice B-29 build and as for the twin in 1/48th ? Mad as a hatter but go for it
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Yes, I would agree, if only for "aesthetics" sake, to include a stub wing outside of the fuselage. I think the P-38 Lightning has a very pleasing twin-tail--without the stubs it would look WEIRD! This will resemble that. I took the liberty of altering the drawing, putting the main wing-tips on where the tailplane extensions would be. You might want to round them off more to the style of the original B-29. Or not!

Gee---maybe it could carry TWO atomic bombs!!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Wonderful batch of Twin-Fortress...

A squadron of Goblins?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Both B-29Z and B-36Z have been invented by the cartoonist Ted Nomura. See my free books, or thumbnails at http://cmeunier.chez-alice.fr/index.htm ...

Ooh I got it, it could carry four grand slams near the wing roots.

Thanks

Wing tip tanks or swing-wings. I've never seen a piston engined aircraft with swing-wings :banghead:

Tophe

Is "swing wings" the same as VG? The Pelenberg I posted in another topic had such a feature with piston engine.

Oh!! Wow!! I have just GOT to build me one of these!!! :o. Just as soon as I've finished my twin Victor.........................!!!!!
Loves JMNs but could never eat a whole one!!

>I've never seen a piston engined aircraft with swing-wings<

Mainly because a piston plane can't go fast enough to warrant the advantage swept wings give to truly speedy aircraft. Even the Me-262's "swept" wings were there more for c.g. issues and contributed little practicality. In the case of the B-29, with engines in the wings, any "swing" would put the engine thrust line at angles to the line of flight. You may notice that "swing-wing" aircraft have NO engines out on the wings!!

But for a nuclear bomber B-29, maybe "swing-wings" would help in a steep dive to gather escape speed after "dropping". 'Course, then the B-29 would have to be stressed to take the "G"s of the pull-out!! Shades of the He-177 four-engined DIVE BOMBER!!

VG is not for speed only, it may be useful for centering on a VSTOL (Pelenberg).

I have joined your 3 views, together with other B-29Z of mine at http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/twin_boom_whatif_1939_45.htm
Thanks again!
