When Frank Whittle was found in bed with the wife of Gloster's boss (I thought he was Henry Gloster, but wiki informed me there wasn't such a person   :o), relations became quite strained   :-\ and Whittle moved over to De Havilland to continue the development work on his engine.
Using the already proven DH-88 structure, 2 engines were installed to give an adequate power.
Given the wing structure, there is no place for a retracting undercarriage, so it will be fixed, and suitably spatted (I have 2 leftover from the Do-28Z anyway).
Problem: I discovered after having glued and sanded etc the engines, that the wing roots are BADLY warped   :banghead: and will need a lot of putty. I started filling the space with plastic scraps.

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Hmmmm, that looks surprisingly 'realistic' and possible. Great idea and can't wait to see it finished.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks, Kit.
it will take a while, as in october I'll be continuously on the run. Left home today and won't be back for more than 2 days till early november.

Cool! Looks a little like something I came up with a while ago:

Good luck with your build!

Thanks. I suppose a jet Comet it's an idea many whiffers had (or should have had  ;D)
Had you found where to put a retractable undercarriage?

A jet Comet  how many passengers ?

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Now, that is a prop a/c that really looks good with jets. Almost like it was designed that way to begin with.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Nice. Reminds me a bit of the Jet Sturgeon project - but this one is really elegant. Very nice idea!
I also have a Comet fuselage in the scrap box (no wings left), and this inspired me... orginally wanted to make a Kikka look-alike from it, but maybe with Me 262 wings and in PRU Blue...?

I don't know if it would be worth the trouble (or if there would be room for it in the Comet fuselage) but a proposed twin jet version of the Pe-2 light bomber used a bicycle undercarriage with outriggers:

What he said! A really excellent idea.

But plausible for the Comet. IMHO it is hard to put a "normal" landing gear under it, as well as a tricycle arrangement (unnless wings and CG are moved aft). The Tu-2 solution looks perfect - very good find!
