Yeah I wish I had the skill and patience to do your "lazy"....

The tail looks really good. I don't have the background knowledge to comment on how realistic it is, but I like the sound of your plan to flat down the shiny alloy with patchy matt varnish. Alloy that's been painted and then "unpainted" tends to be very matt and acquires white corrosion quickly because it isn't polished. Maybe a tiny touch of white in the matt varnish?

I might just stick with the flat coat over the salt weathering but I like your idea about adding a little tiny bit of white to the flat coat to get the look of white corrosion and will try this at some point in the future. :thumbsup:
