Hmm, a Skyray  in this scheme would be tasty:

Imagine a Super-Skyray with the F8U-3's armament and speed.
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

I'm thinking of doing a fairly stock USN Skyray but armed with AIR-2 Genies to break up Soviet bomber raids on the carrier. If it is good enough for ADC, the USN could at least test the capability. Might also make an "interesting" (and very interim) anti-Sverdlov weapon (admittedly only in very favourable conditions).

Alternatively, I might do one with a short-range ALBM based on Caleb. ALBM-shooters don't necessarily have to be eight-engined behemoths.

Just trying to think of ways to keep the F4D relevant for longer without jumping to the F5D (which isn't as easily come by).

That sounds interesting...
The F4D could've also been modernized with a GE J79 and the AN/APQ-64 to make it an all-weather interceptor. That would give it the capability of deploying the Sparrow III missiles so it would've been a more relevant fighter at the time. I took that route and built the F4D-3...  ;)

You learn something new every day...............

I'd never even HEARD of the CALEB before today, quite a clever idea, even though it was cancelled.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yes, it brings a whole new dimension to shooting down a snooper but rather than a Hurricat bringing down a Condor, it's a F4D taking down a bothersome sputnik. How's that for progress?!!

That F4D-3 is beautiful btw.

Very good looking Fords.
I bet that also looks very good with the blue top over white underside of the Sea Harrier.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
