Great article from Dark Roasted Blend here on Road Train type vehicles and various related things. LOADS of modelling possibilities (think Scaleorama): there's a couple of models in there to start with:

Those ETF designs are interesting. They've been around for a couple of years now, I haven't seen any trucks built though; it's still only a concept. They'd be a huge improvement over current oversize dump trucks though.

These are Cool! looks like Something you'd see in the 'New Captain Scarlet'! Great Post!   Dan

From Tall & Tippy to Low & Long. I can see these 'armored up' and delivering supplies to the rear echelon supply areas for breaking down for delivery to forward units.

Of course, if you want to go really exotic, there's always this Syd Mead concept:

Is this a suitable moment to introduce the vehicle  referred to below?

Never heard of that before but it's intriguing. Fancy fitting the darn thing with slick tyres though, madness!  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The Cruiser has long been a personal fascination, and from what I've read over the years, as designed,
different tires would have made little difference in performance. The vehicle was poorly balanced,
seriously underpowered and the drive gearing  was incorrect. A major re-construction would have been
necessary to make it work.

Still majorly cool and the 1/48 Roden D17S kit could be converted into a D17A to mount upon a 1/48
scratchbuild of the Snow Cruiser.
;D

I only came across  it by  accident recently,  when looking for something else entirely.   It was in an article headed "Great American Automotive Fiascoes"  which also covered the Edsel and similar.....

If you want me to get all classical ...........It is an example of HUBRIS  later visited by NEMESIS..................and that concludes today's  classics lesson.

Another jungle-basher here, but this one's supposed to be a pleasure cruiser!

From a different DRB article here: http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2012/03/retro-future-glorious-transportation.html

French company Nicolas have built a new addition to their Tractomas line of heavy haulage tractors:

(that's 5 trailers, for a total loaded weight of more than 500 tons)

it's 10 meters long, 3.5 m wide (where normal trucks are 2.5 m), and has a 1000 shp engine.

To give a better idea of scale, here's one they did earlier:

a couple of those in operation:

DRB does it again, with a more literal interpretation of the term "roadtrain". This is soooooo buildable.....
