Spiteful F.15; has anyone tried to make a contra-prop work

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I may take you up on it as some date in the future.  BTW, I've dug out that Rose turret we were discussing.  Paragon 100 Group conversion set, so there'll be plenty of useful bits in it.

As an aside to this Dec SAM has an article on the Spitefull (from Tony Butler's latest work) and a build of the 1/48 Trumpeter kit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I'm now in possession of a Morgan and Shacklady Spitfire book and last night had a good read of the Spiteful Chapter, I'm going to read it again tonight just to get my head completely around it but for the moment all I can see is that the fuselage question is just glossed over with the 'standard production fuselage' comment.  Nothing else about the fuselage details on how it was changed.

I've also got a couple of 1/48 kits of Spitfire Mk.XIV and Seafire Mk.XV to do a comparison, the whole rear fuselage from both match identically with the Spiteful ----

Bearing in mind you're using the Academy and Hobbycraft kits, neither of which are reknowned for their accuracy, you may be on a fool's errand.

But closer than what is said about them.  All the same I'm on the lookout for a Mk.VIII or IX in 1/48. Any suggestions ?

It's not my scale but from what I have gleaned from elsewhere. the ICM one is regarded as the bestest - Airfix thought of as crude, ditto Occidental, and Hasegawa apparently full of flaws. The old Otaki VIII is still nice bar the lack of gull wing.

If you can, wait for the just announced Eduard Mk.IXc or the Airfix PR.XIX.    Barring some mistranslation at tooling, they should be quite well done.

Roy Sutherland has pronounced the PRXIX to be the bestest.  Apparently Airfix have used Arthur Bentley's drawings and original Supermarine lofting diagrams, so it should be bang on the money.  I'm no real expert and it's not my scale but I couldn't see anything wrong with the ones I saw on the Airfix stand at Telford.  

Mind, their decal selections for it are inspired, I don't think....

I wrote to the RAF Museum at Cosford to see what drawings and photos are available about the Spiteful, specifically I asked about those for the fuselage.  I got a reply today and apparently they have a number of drawings  ---- about a thousand --- and that is just for the fuselage ---

I'm going to browse through the lists and see which ones might be of use to me.

I'm guessing that's an Aeroteam 21 wing, Aeroteam or AZ prop,  Airfix 19 carb intake but the fuselage has me baffled - revamped Aeroteam? Tail fin shape looks too short to be Spiteful - looks like that awful hybrid that Pegasus did.  And if I was being really picky, the second disruptive colour is too green to be a slate grey.

~Nice one though.  It'll have quite a few guessing.

I've started a new thread for it Lee so deleted a couple of pics here.  It's 100% Spitfire though, with a couple of changes   :wacko:

I've used a combination of the Allmark Seafire Mk.XV sheet and the On Target Seafire sheet, the Allmark sheet says all schemes were gloss or semi-gloss finish.  I used Humbrol 102 for the dark slate grey which when glossed changed the colour somewhat.
