Now that Airfix' beautiful new Spitfire Mk.Vb is out, perhaps it's time to take the Tamiya kits of the same marque and give them fabric wings.  The obvious differences could now be corrected!

With the impending advent of the Kinetic 1/48 AMX, how about a few of them in US DACM markings both USAF and U.S. Navy?

Tamiya F-15A:    These kits are usually available at shows for a pittance, yet look pretty decent when finished.   I paid the princely sum of $5.00 for each of mine.    Back when the F-15 was being developed, the main wing had a square tip at one point and the idea is to build off a 'heavy duty' version of that wing planform.   Wing tip rails for AIM-120's, new resin wheels, covers over the seat, HUD, etc. beneath a closed canopy to keep costs down.   Possibly square off horizontal stabilizers as well to match the main wing.  Simple color scheme to draw attention to shape and loadout modifications.

Kitty Hawk F9F-8T Cougar:

US Army OF9F Fast FAC
EF9F Electric Kitty, but will need to think weight and fuel through a bit more.

Italeri Mirage F.1:  put a long photo recon nose on it like the Kfir, Israeli markings.   Or put a small PR nose on it and do it up in RCAF markings.

Big nose/Israeli markings would be my choice.

Definitely! I've had the bits in store for just such a build for a while now. The Mirage F1 is such a super looking aircraft it's got be done! And I like kitbasher's idea of it being in an IDF scheme too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I've thought of doing the same with a Mirage 2000.

HobbyBoss Mirage III:    RCAF overall dark green.  Kinetic Kfir nose.   Kfir drop tanks picked up from someone who used resin replacements.  Canards?  Maybe.    And remotely I'm considering a ZELL system for dispersion into the bush.

Heller/Eduard Mirage 2000D:   RCAF as well, overall green or Aggressor colo(u)rs eh?

Revell Rafale:  RCAF Aggressor.

Note: despite growing up on the Canadian border and freqently being in Regina, I have never eaten poutine.

Monogram 1/48 F-104:

Remove gun, gun vents, polish smooth.   Rescribe.  Intake and exhaust covers.  A very nice set of resin wheels, a resin seat.  Modify nose to some Recce variant.  Two drop tanks devoted to water or water/alcohol injection for a short burst of extra speed.   Israeli markings.

Monogram AV-8A:

British version of the large wing.  U.S. Army.
Suitable ordnance.

Daryl J.

Monogram 1/48 F-105F:   Wing extensions of a scale couple feet, wing tip rails and some beefy Air-to-Ground missiles on the wing tips.  Perhaps they'd be anti-shipping.  Enlarged horizontal stabilizer chord, revised vertical stab.  Rescribed.  RAF markings.  Wrap around Grey/Green??

And, of course some sort of modification for reducing the needed runway to a distance somewhat less than London to Glasgow.

Note to self: watch for bargain-priced 1/48 Hobby Boss F-14 Tomcat kit.  Re: misshapen intakes will be useful in expanding the 'What-ifness' of a fixed wing variant.

Daryl J.

Kinetic Mirage IIIE:

Swedish Splinter, wrapped around.  Recce nose.  3 large aux tanks, 2 for fuel, 1 for water/methanol.

Note to self:Monogram 1/48 Phantom converted into a pseudo-F3H-G attack aircraft.
