GWH MiG-29: USAF DACM aircraft....but in the AMARC boneyard.  It would be a technical exercise that could highlight the superb nature of this kit.

Sea Venom, Firestreaks.  RCAF.

Develop a story about Swedish Splinter camouflage using a F-104C with a recce nose, RF-4x,  and possibly a Pre F-4G.   Aircraft on loan for R&D of recce, SEAD, and ECM missions.   Time frame: 1960s-early 70s.

MiG-21 PFM with a nuclear shape, Egypt or East Germany.   Note: virtually no research done on the MiG and nukes which will be done.   Proposed scenario being that of a quick, cross-border dash to a Western target; range limits of the aircraft being needed better understood.   Scenario has the nukes as a shape only for intimidation/deception purposes.

Hobbycraft CF-100 1:48 with revised radar and 4 underwing Phoenix missiles.   Brassin AIM-54s or Hasegawa issues should be sufficient.

Captain Canada

I like Sea Venom RCAF......had similar thoughts !

Airfix B-57.   Correct the tail, wheels, panel lines, etc.   Add a nose cone from Monogram's F-14 along with suitable length to hold the Tomcat's radar unit.   Wingtip rails with either the Phoenix or a spurious variant mounted.    Overall metal finish with a significant amount of day glow orange.   USAF.    Fits in line with the idea of the Canberra testing virtually everything.

It wasn't an idea, it was REAL! At least here in the UK anyway.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Airfix Canberra PR.9:   In line with the Never Retired idea blends with the USAF use of B-52s dropping research aircraft.          Canberra carries a hypersonic research platform in its belly.     But since the aircraft would largely hide the hypersonic testbed thanks to short landing gear, display the research craft on a trailer much like Monogram included little tractors and trailers with their large bomber models.   Paint scheme and area of use to be determined.

Trumpeter's Supermarine Attacker:  extra long flying surfaces but not nearly to the level of the U-2 or WB-57, canopy modifications for high altitude. PR nose.   Prototype aircraft.

While the idea is not an original one, with the impending advent of the AMK Fiat G.91(T??), remove the canopy and cockpit.   Graft in a nose that is a bit like a Bomarc.    Put in Green and Da-glo Orange US Army Test markings.

Daryl J.

Trumpeter's mis-shapen Vampire kit:   Remove the cockpit, gun troughs.  Reshape nose all the way to the intakes making it even chunkier than it already is.   Enlarge all flying surfaces complete with an upturned/curled tip of the mainplanes.    Some gubbins attached to the dorsal side to indicate remote piloting.   Either RCAF or RAF markings.   Underwing Brimstones??

Now I rather like photorecon aircaft.

Should Airfix' new Swift FR.5 be indeed scaled in 1/48 , one may have to undergo a serious rhinoplasty and donate it's nose to a Trumpeter Attacker kit along with requisite wing and tailplane extensions, disarmament, and some resin bits.    But it would have to be not just an extra Swift kit, but an extra-extra at the minimum.   A few alternate Air Force's markings rather quickly come to mind for a film-and-camera carrying Swift.  Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Greece, Iraq, Khemed to name a few that immediately come to mind.

Revell 1/72 Phantom series:

One of the criticisms of the kit, that of having a canopy with too little curve in side view, sets it up beautifully for a single seat attack version.  Sand the aft canopy "flat" to be more like the F4H-1 prototype, fill in panel lines and utterly eliminate the aft cockpit.   Shorten the gun nose for better  view of the ground below.

However...modify intakes in one of two ways. 1) very high speed for a recon bird or 2) very high angles of attack for a mud mover operating principally at low levels.    Consult the Book of Armaments and outfit as needed.

Nation of choice.

--------------------------------------

Alternate wing and tail planforms as desired.   I quite like the overhead view of an early prototype where the paint makes it look as though the wing tips are ogival.

Academy/Italeri B-17C

USN test aircraft for missile development.   Sports a pair of Harpoons.

Hasegawa F-20:  US Army fast FAC

Academy F-4B.   Revise intakes to look more like those of the CF-105.   Long nozzle exhausts.   Add a recce nose that looks like a small, early Peace Jack style.    Simple paint scheme of non -standard colors such as an overall light olive.  Possibly increase angle of wing sweep slightly.

Bombardier C-series:
If/When a kit becomes available, do one as a Canadian MPA.

US Army keeps fixed wing aircraft:   The recce nose insert for the F-5E (not the RF-5 series) placed on the F-20.    Is there such a nose available in 1:72?
