i was out shopping this morning and i was looking at a kit of a Boeing 787.
while i was there an idea jumped to mind.

the 787 is generally a civilian airliner, but i think there are potential military applications for it.
thinking of roles such as AEW&C (longer loitertime/range then the E-737 wedgetails), maritime patrol,... but most of all i was thinking of a KC-787 Air Refueling tanker version (read somewhere that the long range and fuel efficiency of the aircraft would make it an ideal tanker aircraft.
building new ones right now on the assembly line would be impossible now that Boeing is overbooked on Civilian orders, maybe we might see some tanker conversions in about 10 years time, when there are large numbers available.

i think this aircraft has a lot of whif-potential
any other ideas?

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

How about packing it full of air launched AEV drones and Cruise missiles for a long range strike package?  :o

Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

One I always fancied was backdating it to the 7E7 concept drawings.  Boy did it look cool compared to 787 that has emerged.

A 787-9 wouldn't be too difficult to do, simple stretch to the fuselage and might lend it to some roles such as the tanker.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

How about a retro KC-787

And a Shamo scheme
