Not sure if this the right place but.....can anyone tell me if the kit supplied in the RN history boxing can be made as a GR9...??? There are 4 nose choices and the one for the GR7 seems to be very similar to the GR9....it also includes the two scoops on top of the fuselage behind the canopy that the GR9 has....not a Harrier officianado but just asking.....been trying to compare pics on the net.....even that don't seem to be an exact science....obviously not worried re a real world build....just wether I can say the kit is a GR9 or not....many thanks....H

Aof1, there is really no external difference between a 7 and 9.  If doing a real world project, pick a tail number, find a pic and built it to that.  There are some small diffenrces between tail numbers, but unless your a total Harrier JMN, it doesn't matter.

Quick and dirty answer, hope that helps!

Well thats the old Harrier GR5/7 kit included in that set. To be honest if you want a GR9 then get the New Airfix GR9/GR7A kit as its quite superior to the older kit and well worth the money.

Geoff....appreciate that....saw the build in the Airfix mag....
Scooterman....cheers.....! There are 4 noses in the kit...I'm sure one is for the American Harrier II plus, GR5 and the GR7/9...not a real world build and just thinking about what to do with it.....

There are four noses but they are just different sensor fits for the AV-8B, GR-5, GR-5A and GR-7, the AV-8B+ is quite different as its a proper radome and has only been kitted by Hasegawa AFAIK in 1/72 mainstream kits. Now adding a SHAR2 nose cone possibly with one of the four kit noses acting as a mounting bracket for it may be the sort of idea your looking for .

Yeap they use a variety visual sensors to identify ground targets, Air Intercept Radar would be required to utilise A-A missiles such as AMRAAM, Sky Flash or similar.

Aof1, I've got this build in progress (that's as in slow progress -- ), it's supposed to be an fleet defence fighter.   I added an F-4E nose cone to it along with some big long range missiles, I'm calling it a Sea Harrier F.3 (or it might be an F.13 or 14)

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

I'm sure I was watching that build ages ago......single seat with a radar nose n missiles....lotsa missiles....
Geoff.....don't suppose you got a SHAR2 nose radome....??? I think I may have a USN F4 radome somewhere....that may fit.....??

I seem to reading in Air International many years ago of Japan expressing an interest in a radar-equipped TAV-8B variant for the anti-shipping role, but can't find any references.  Can anyone shed further light?

I tried the larger radome cone but it was too big, so went with the F-4E type.  I still have to cut a couple of slots vertically just in front of the canopy and spread it out to match the cone diameter.  The idea was the radar system needed a dedicated operator so the two-seater was the only option.

Yeah.....I understand that......great idea....but I only got a single seater.....I got an Airfix famous fighters box somewhere.....it das a phantom in it with various different nose options......might try one of them.....if I can find it.....

I think the 9 has the bigger LERX than the 7,  and those extra little intakes above the wing for the more powerful engine.

Both the 9 and the 7 can have either size LERX fitted.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
