One of the truism's you learn as you get older is "the best laid plans....."

Sums up my week, so far, nicely & the rest of it ain't looking too promising either. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Mind you, I am making some progress on the HMBLT (http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,35529.180.html) which is a nice change - just not sure it's going to be enough.

Possibly starting in November, I'd like to do a large Area 51/Groom Lake diorama display showcasing every aircraft that has ever been flight tested there and/or rumored to have been tested there. UFO's will not be included as there is no concrete proof that UFO's exist at Area 51.
So far, I've got mostly 1/144 scale kits of the following:
U-2
SR-71
D-21 drone
Aurora
SR-75 Penetrator
Lockheed XST Hopeless Diamond
Northrop XST
Lockheed Have Blue
F-117
Northrop Tacit Blue
Boeing Bird of Prey
Mig-15
Mig-17
Mig-19
Mig-21
Mig-23
Mig-29
Su-22
Su-27

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Actually, I kinda take back what I said. I'll still do the Area 51 project, but it might be later. I think what I'll do next is a small display diorama of Northrop flying wing bombers: XB-35, YB-49, and the B-2A Spirit.

I will repeat my earlier utterances, build stuff and have fun,  and I really hope I can get back to doing so after I finish the conqueror,  the 2 lower side skirts fell off last night, as I was putting some green paint on them, one took off 2 of the supports with it as it did so, ( one of which promptly detached form the panels as well)  :banghead:
as I cant see much beyond that at the moment,  im letting the re glued parts set and will attempt to reassemble the darned things again, ( again) tomorrow.
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.

Cars in 1/24 and 1/25 scale, got a few in the stash.
Mostly Ford Capris, but  surfing the web has produced the resin body shell which just needs a donor kit for the Riley Elf and Ford Corsair.
The 1/72 DC-4/C-54, Revell and Mach2 both produce a kit each. Both have build issues especially around the instructions.
I'm not too sure whether or not the two kits are compatible otherwise you could swap over parts.
This would fit into the DC airliner series as there is a DC-5 kit available.

I managed to get hold of a 1/72 de Havilland Heron . It's already been built but in need of restoration. Went on line and the
Americans have given the Heron turboprops, the Canadians built something similar which is worthwhile Whiffing.

Ok, I was dumb enough to buy an partly build 1/72 Tu-95, only some parts of the aft fuselage are glued. Always felt I needed the wings, engines and props for whatever comes up. And it came cheap....

So now i found myself planning a project. A rather lage project...so it's going to take years. Here some mental notes i'd like to share:

Tu-95 wings with single B-36 fuselage:

Tu-95 wings with double B-36 fuselage in 8 configuration:

Tu-95 wings with1/48 B-29 fuselage:

I also have a B-52H fuselage available...tried it, looks good but is a bit obligate IMHO.

All suggestions are welcome!

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

You have TWO 1/72 B-36s????:o :o

Um! I've got five --- four and an XC-99 really (and eight 1/72 B-52's)
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Well planning ahead into 2018 and SMW, I think I shall keep to the Helicopter theme if I can as rather enjoying it at the moment. I can see me building some Airfix Royal Navy Phantoms of course but I don't have any plans for any major scratch building challenges as yet. The helicopter kits are in my ready stash in the workshop and I did pick up a few of those lovely Sea King HAS1 decal sheets along with the new Merlin sheet so quite a few project and whiff ideas to address along with a spattering of real RN types all of which shoud line up nicely for the S&M models Wasp due at SMW 2018.

The Heron nacelles are very narrow and it'll be a lot of work to merge anything wider with them.  Especially as you'll have to do it four times.
Also, the inboard engines are quite close to the fuselage which could be an issue if fitting more modern props.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

The single B-36 fuselage version looks best to me.

Yes, but I also think a slightly lengthened B.29 fuselage would work as well.

As for 2018 ? Well lets get there first and then I think I'll just see what comes along.  ;)
