Local junk shop,  for 50p!  Axis Aircraft of World War Two  9781851529667  David Mondey  Chancellor Press.  In this, I find the information that the RAF  had plans to order the Caproni Ca310 "Libecco", in 1939,   in quantity.....300 is the suggested total. The order is said to have been cancelled when Italy entered the war.  Is there an inexpensive kit of this aircraft  currently available, and if I  do  build one in RAF colours, will it count as a true Whiff?

The Italeri versions of the aircraft can be found at a decent price http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&rt=nc&_nkw=Italeri+Ca. Although I'm not sure they do a 310.

The French also ordered Ca 31*'s and indeed one was delivered in French camo and markings just before Italy declared war

I have acquired at low cost from a charity shop The Diary of a Cabinet Minister by the Right Honourable Jim Hacker, MP. Covering his first years in power, or at least in Government, with the aid and trickery of Sir Humphrey Appleby and Bernard Woolley.

Now to find all the books in the set...

The ones I've read are the memoirs of Bernard Woolley after he became head of the civil service. Brilliant  ;D Sir Humphrey ends up in a home for slightly loony former senior civil servants.....always thought that was the House of Lords

A nice little haul from the Hospice shop...

Quartered Safe Out Here, George MacDonald Fraser. This has to be good given your recommendations and the quality of the Flashman series.

One Man's War, Frank Stroobant. A Channel Islander's experiences of the German Occupation. He was deported to Germany and then Italy to work in labour camps there.
Making the Corps, Thomas E. Ricks. "This is the story of Platoon 3086, the US Marine Corps, and America". Follows 63 recruits in the 1995 USMC intake at Parris Island.

Armies of World War 3, Charles Messenger. A typical 1984 look at how the future NATO-Soviet war might be fought. Got this for the artwork and some interesting pictures. One drawing shows a pair of F-15s taking off from a burning airfield on jet sleds!

PR19_Kit

From the IPMS Gloucester Show y'day, Osprey's 'Valiant Units of the Cold War' and 'Air Force Legends' P-51H Mustang book.

The later is choeck full of enough drawings to build your own P-51H from scratch I think. Did you know that the exhaust stubs on a Packard Merlin are torqued to 80 - 90 INS.lbs? That's only 7.5 ft.lbs, I can torque that with my little finger! I'm amazed they don't fall off when that V12's giving its all!  :o

And a P-51 cost $54000 approx, cheap at the price. The book has lots of gen on the three lighweight Mustangs too, the F. G and J, and I've always wanted to model those. It agrees with The Wooksta's assessment of the M News P-51H as a load of rubbish, and mine too......
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

The Wooksta!

The irony is I've got one of those Bad News P-51H kits somewhere part started.  But I've also got a High Planes one which cost the princely sum of £2, and once the flash is cleaned off it looks to be far, far superior.

Sounds interesting i notice the 2nd volume is Taranto to Singapore, i suspect the WW2 timeline gets a little more complicated after 1941 with the Japanese & USA joining the war as i think the the Imperial Japanese navy would have reacted differently with regard to the Operations around Malaysia, Singapore and Ceylon if carrier forces are more even in their capabilities. The spanner in the works is if Japan decided not to attack the British Colonies in which case WW2 timeline could get rather confusing with effectively seperate war in Europe and the Far East !  Which could make subsequent volumes in the series difficult.
