Britain at War magazine's First World War An Illustrated History.

I originally bought this for my youngest Godson as he's doing WWI in school (does the battlefield trip in April) and has really got into it. He's borrowed some of my books, although I've kept him away from some of those with shall we say "slightly controversial views *". Was that impressed I got a copy for myself. A fair few photo's I've not seen 

* To be honest I'm not sure which school of thought is current when WWI history is taught in today's schools. In my day, mid 60's, it was definitely of the lions led by donkeys school, which I had to be very carefull about when I took my O Level as I didn't agree with it. Come A Level and you could argue against it with care.

The Winston Effect

A huge hardback, full colour book about the history and projects of the Stan Winston Creature Shop, published in 2006, just two years before he died. Winston started off as a makeup artist and then went into puppetry and animatronics and also branched out into digital effects. The Predator, the Terminator, the Alien Queen and a whole host of other seminal monsters and characters came out of his workshop, winning him many awards, including oscars.

Yeap plus the Habbakuk, the 1952 designs and the post CVA-01 Helicopter Carriers that led to Invincible and includes a chapter on the new QEC class with recent photos of ship from the Autumn. There are also some direct copies of plans from the MM in colour in the centre pages including deck plans for CVA01

I bet they just get thinner and thinner every year. 100 years ago it'd have been a set of encyclopedias, now it can't be more than a thick magazine....

I didn't get any military books this year but I did get CAMRA's 101 Beer Days Out. Cracking little guide to places to go out and enjoy a decent pint. Did you know there's a National Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent? Lots of good pubs and brewery tours too.
A good one I want to visit must be the West Riding Licensed Refreshment Room in Dewsbury Station with a nice website name http://www.imissedthetrain.com/ 

Also had a lucky find in the hospice charity shop on Monday, I now have Terry Pratchett's Truckers, Diggers and Wings trilogy!

[ Did you know there's a National Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent? Lots of good pubs and brewery tours too.

I wasn't aware of that until I got a train from Burton earlier this year, and I'm a CAMRA member

My Boss used to live, in an ex-fire station complete with pole no less, about 2 miles from the Museum, precisely because of his nearness there to all things connected with beer!
