So here's the start-point. The loadout, quite conventional for a SEAD tasked platform. From the outside:
4 x MICA medium range AAM's for self defence. (It was going to be toting two MICA's and two Python 3's, but the tiny forward fins were etch metal and simply wouldn't co-operate !!): Source, Revell Rafale.

1 x AGM-65G & 1 x GBU-12 for 'targets of opportunity or sudden threats: Source, Monogram A-10 and Hasegawa weapons set respectively.

2 x AGM-88C, the weapon of choice for taking down threatening radars: Source, Hasegawa weapons set.

2 x 600 litre drop tanks. It's a relatively light loadout, but there's a long flight-time to the target !!: Source, kit.

1 x Damocles targeting pod, for 'lasing' those 'targets of opportunity' mentioned previously: Source, Revell Rafale.

Painting cockpit soon, but it needs to cool-off here first, it's just after 6-30pm as I type this and the temp has just dropped to below 27deg !!. More pics & progress as soon as I can, but this isn't going to be any sort of quick-build !!

As with the Rafale, I started some very basic work in the cockpit today. Just the basic tone (very dark grey) and the IP's and consoles. Will start adding some dry-brushing and detail painting during the week, it's a few evenings worth of work, but has always been one of my most favourite of 'modelling disciplines'.

Pictures later in the week.

Great to hear your are back at your work bench! Looking foward to see what you come up with as well as how you excute it

What about two MICA's and two Python 4's or 5's?  :-\

Simple, friend.... don't have them in stock !!, Loadouts for my 'What if' builds almost always come out of the massive pile of spares I've accumulated over the years - and given that I have five RoG Rafales and three Eurofighters, that pile isn't going to be reducing anytime soon !! - The only weap's I've especially sourced recently was a pair of 1:48 Exocet's for seriously serious project which may happen later this year !!

Whilst uploading my first set of pics (cockpit etc), for this and the Rafale, my laptop expired. Unfortunately I cannot access those photos now until the thing is repaired. Suffice to say, both 'pits do look very good - though I say it m'self - with all the MFD's switches and seats painted.

As this is written the F-2 is a fair way beheind the Rafale which is 70% built. This is simply because it's a more involved and complicated process with a far higher parts-count.

I'll get some pics up over the weekend using my PC, just have to trust me on the cockpits tho'

More soon.

Problems resolved and here's the first pics:

Nothing clever here, simply sprayed Tamiya 'Panzer Grey', then the panels hand painted in matt and satin black. Followed by lots of very careful dry-brushing with progressively lighter greys. MFD's are first painted silver and after 24hrs to dry/harden clear green.

AFN, more soon.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

It's not just you Ian...the cockpit does look good !

As you can see lots of PSR around the front of the spine but all worth the effort. Couple of little aerial add-ons and a GPS dome from a passing pen-top !! - Next.... wings !!

Tail cut:

Felt 'uncomfortable hacking into a Hasegawa kit. There's a lot of 'fanboys' on other sites who'd probably put a price on my head for such heresy !!

Now that it's coming together you can see just how much bigger that wing is when compared to a 'vanilla' F-16 !!

More at the end of the week, hopefully.

Aha, yes, I see what you mean now.

If that was such a good idea how come they didn't do that on 'standard' F-16s? if nothing else it gives you more room for wing pylons.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Beauty. I still have no idea what the diferences are between the two.  :banghead:

And having grown up with F-4s,-5s, -14s, -15s, -101s, 104s, A-4s, -7s.( etc etc ) F-16s make me uncomfortable too....... ( just kidding. Please nobody respond to this so we don't get into another dreaded F-16 discussion )

As I said in the Rafael thread...you make it look too easy Ian !
