Great work so far and the model is coming on grand.

But the one defining question I have about the pictures is simply......, how the hell do you keep your cutting board so damn clean...???

Easy !  I have four cutting boards. The one you see here is JUST for cutting, hence virtually no mess. I try and keep my work area as 'sterile' as possible, anal I know, but that's just the way I like to work....

....Of course away from the workbench and cutting-board I'm NOWHERE near as fussy !!

Ian, you inspired me to buy a 1:48 F2-B for entirely different spurious modeling purposes.   It's a lovely kit isn't it!

It is Daryl, but when you start bolting-it-together, watch the joints around the intake. They're the original mid 80's F-16 moulds and the plastic is showing it's age - the fit isn't quite as good as the rest and the plastic is quite brittle. Other than that it's been very well behaved.

Seriously folks, I really want need your feedback.

As you all can see I've used the SAAF scheme, that was applied to the Mirage F1's toward the very end of their careers. This is one of my all time favourite camouflage schemes and I've been itching to use it on a project for a long time. Thing is...

...I'm not certain it 'suits' the F-2/F-16 airframe. Please tell me what you think, I genuinely need to know.

Thanks.

Yes there is some 'spatter' only saw it when I took these pics - it's fixed now !!

The blue is a custom mix of Tamiya acrylics. The Brown/Green Humbrol H119 Light Earth & H117 (the lighter of the two Vietnam greens). Radome is also Humbrol, H167 'Barley Grey'. As ever all questions, comments criticism and (especially) feedback is/are very welcome. Thanks for taking the time to look. This will be the last update for a week or so as we're going up to Lake Taupo on Tuesday for a wee break.

Hmmm.....kinda, but not really ! Not much help, I know

Having said that, the colours look awesome, and after going this far, there's no way we're going to let you change it now ! Awesome job on the paintwork, as usual Ian !

Ian,
I think your choice in colors are spot on! Love it  But for me it's the the blue on the side of the avionics hump the goes to the nose. I feel it should end before it hits the canopy. The camo scheme looks like the tan/green pattern is to be seen in top view and the blue is for the underside and vertical surfaces like the tail and in between the wing/tailplanes.
Here's a quick and dirty photoshopping. I hope you don't mind.

Hope that helps,
Steven L

Just my $0.02 but I prefer the second (retouched) photo. In the unretouched photo the blue is on the blended wing body area so its hard to say what's verticle and what's horizontal. Otherwise I say you are on the right track.

I have to agree with the guys, an end to the blue as it hits the canopy, I can try to draw up on a F-16D if you like.

And this is why I love this place !!  - Almost like you were reading my mind, Steven. I can see some masking and re-spraying in my near future. Thanks that's exactly what it needed, but I couldn't see it because I was so close to it.

All other thoughts and ideas are welcome, folks. Keep 'em coming.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
