I need a new camera, I've decided.

Any suggestions for a (preferrably cheap) small, digital camera which can take good quality closeups?  My present one is crap (and fairly old).

i myself use a Canon powershot E1 for photographing my models.
if your looking for a good camera for close-up shots, i recommend one with a Macro funtion

I use a very simple pocket camera (Kodak 7330, IIRC - more than 10 years old but still goind strong and doing anything I want it to) for my pictures.

You won't IMHO need a killer resolution, unless you want to produce huge posters from your pic. Rather make sure the camera a has a good optical zoom (NO digital zoom), a large optical sensor for good light and color sensitivity and a Macro function for close-ups, which includes the option to avoid a flash, if it has one, and maybe a timer. This must not be an expensive investment - it's a proper set up of the model or scene that makes much of a picture, with light and arrangements. The camera is just a tool.

Additionally, an investment into a small tripod is worthwhile, because model pictures are generally taken without flash, and for that you have a hard time keeping your hand still while the camera is taking the pic.
