is there a way to get 3 view drawings of plans in an accurate scale?

i want to scratchbuild a few planes in 1/700 scale and a set of drawing the correct size would help massively

Not really.  Some have a scale on them but the majority don't.  I look up a specific dimension, usually wingspan, and then scale them in Photoshop by setting up some guides at the specified size and then using the free transform tool until they fit.  Easiest way I've found so far and far quicker then trying to mess with percentage reductions.

Yup, Cliffy's method is good, I've done this as well.

I use PaintShopPro which has a handy 'Resample' function to enable you to change the size of any graphic on a pixel by pixel basis. Like CliffyB I calculate the wingspan, or other major dimension, in the scale that I need in pixels and then 'Resample' to that size.

This means you need to make a one time calculation on how many pixels are equal to fixed length for a particular paper size that you're going to print on, in my case it's 7.85 pixels = 1mm for an A4 sheet and it's printed at the top of my blank sheets, just so I don't forget.  ;D

No sweat, and money doesn't come into it. Which aircraft are you talking about?

OK I'm on the case. PM me your snail mail address please.

And they're 1/700 scale you need, not 1/720 like some ship models?

A 4 ft 'boat' in 1/700 scale would be 2800 ft long in the real world. Are you thinking of doing the Habbkuk, 'cos if so you've been beaten to the punch.....

OK, job done. The real thing, an A4 sheet,  will be in the post tomorrow, but this is what it looks like half size.

Hi ..... don't know if it's a contribution, but, in order to make a model of HMS Belfast, the overall length of which I'd researched, I took some plan views to a print shop and played with the scale function until by trial and error I got some A3 sheet size diagrams which showed the length corresponding to a particular scale-rule scale. I could then just trace off the various numerous separate deck areas and other details. Could have gone bigger in theory on a bigger printer.

For the elevation I went to London and took a photograph from across the river and did the same at the print shop. Worked!.... with allowances for perspective. I did get challenged by some security people but by the time I gave them a long winded model-making explanation I think they stopped suspecting I had terrorist intentions towards the Belfast.

WHAT?!  :o

Do they challenge EVERY tourist who takes photos of the Belfast? If so there must be thousands of them patrolling The Embankment on a pointless task that WE'RE paying for!
