P-3 Orion Stepbrother

Were any other airframes considered for the concept that became the P-3 Orion?
The closest I think anything came would have been the EC-121.

Martin proposed the P7M Submaster which looked like a cross between a Seamaster and a Coronado. Long thin flying boat hull with a T tail and a straight wing with four piston engines. There's an excellent drawing of it on this Up Ship page :-

The Argus was extremely impressive.  I've  contemplated trying to produce a more macho whiff version of its step-sister the Britannia............AEW or ASW  do spring to mind.  I'll  try and write the backstory sometime soon  if anyone else fancies starting on the styrene  end of things  in  the meantime.

WOW!  That's one smart looking flying boat.  Now I have to build one, thanks!    Always loved flying boats/seaplanes.  Wish we still had some.

Lockheed got a contract for the P-7 to replace the P-3 but the project was cancelled due to Lockheed's lack of progress

At the time the P-7 was being talked about I was in a Reserve squadron augment unit at NAWS Pt. Mugu and was working with guys that had jobs with Lockheed. They all thought that killing the P-7 was not a good idea, it kept the P-3 around longer than it was supposed to.

Sounds like a P-7 would be easy enough to make out of P-3. Maybe a 144th scale Minidraft kit with the props from...I was thinking a Revell Hawkeye but I don't think they do the new props ?

The stablemate was the Lockheed Neptune, but I would of thought of using the DC-6.
