Our OGL did the Ultimate Tri-motor by pivoting the wings and making it a VTOL!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

A gunship of course!  Maybe a bunch of Vickers machine guns out the side, some searchlights, camoflage. Ratty looking.  Nicaragua or El Salvador 1930's.

spanish civil war republican AF bomber?
Remember, if the reality police ask you haven't seen us in ages!
When does "old enough to know better" kick in?

In-line engines! Streamlined and with spatted landing gear for the wing engines.

Or use engines powerful enough to power the aircraft with the wing engines alone. Ditch the nose engine and place a turret there. Another machine gun in a dorsal position.
The Spanish Republican theme sounds good. Maybe have the engines come from an unserviceable SB-2.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

That sounds and would look good
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
