Captain Canada

Hi Guys,
As part of my half built kit reduction plan, I started working on these two again. They are the Dragon 1+1 F-18E kit. No idea of the accuracy etc., but they are beautiful little kits ! I started them in Texas when I was down there for 6 weeks in 2010.

Haven't worked out the Squadrons yet, but they will be a pair from 3 Wing, Baden-Soellingen, Germany circa the present. One will be gray as an ADV and the other camo as a ground pounder. The kit also comes with some gorgeous weapons, the SLAM ER and the AIM-9X. The LGBs are from a Dragon Tornado kit and not sure where the AIM-120 are from. Perhaps and F-16XL ? The kits also come with a targeting pod, but I need to source out some Sparrows for the undersides. Hey, they have pylons so I might as well fill 'em !

What scale are these? 1:144? Looking very clean and crisp!

Captain Canada

Yes, 144th. The Dragon kits are beautiful in this scale. Well, some of them. I have the Harriers as well, but the canopies are awful, totally ruin the look of the aeroplane....but having said that, they come with all sorts of bits and Brimstone as well !

I would get one of these stuck under my finger nails
Those are very nicely detailed kits CC, and looking forward to what you do to them.Just a matter of interest, how long are those LGB's the bigger ones, as they look a good size to arm a Tucano COIN bird with. There are some weapons sets out there in1/144th with them in isn't there.

I actually got the AIM-120s out of an ARII kit. Not sure where I got it, maybe Comrade Anthony ? They would definately fit under the wing of a Tucano, but what would they be ? 100 lb. LGBs ? Probably have to check the actual dimensions ( or be more of a mathemologist then myself...) to get that answer ! But it would be nice if they scaled out to 250 pounders for whif purposes !

That is exactly what I was thinking CC, I had a look online for some sets of weapons last night, and most have a mutha-load of other stuff in them and maybe a couple of pairs of LGB's I think I will have to investigate further, and perhaps buy a suitable weapons set, and give away what I won't be needing.
Cheers

Ya, it was great to meet you too Eddie ! The trip to the show was definately one of the hi-lites of an awesome adventure !

Chris, i think these bombs actually came with this kit, not the Tornado as I had thought.

I've got 2 spares ( as there are 4 in the kit ) so 2 are free to a good home if you'd like them !

Great work on stuff so small, I'd struggle with 1/72 scale ones
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

Thanks Chris ! I was going to make them look more modern, but I do like the look of the 'old school' Sparrows. Besides, I think that the RCAF would have kept the old inventory to save some money !

Captain Canada

Thanks Pedro !

Still working on them. The usual problems are cropping up.....modelling A.D.D. One kit leads to another to another to another.....
